If this is undertaken (though a need has not been demonstrated), I recommend that it become a post in the only sticky thread for BC&H. We could change the title of that sticky thread, but I don't want a bunch of stickies.

So how long should an entry be then? Max 10 lines? 50 words?

Reasons I think we need a glossary/dictionary:

1. It will make it easier for people visiting this forum to get meanings of certain words without wasting time on trial and error on sites like glossarist.com.

2. If it becomes popular (subject on how comprehensive it is), it might itself attact many people to the site and forum. Those ensuing adverts will bring money.

3. It will go further in making this forum a definitive site on B C & H. I don't enjoy having to leave the site just to go check for the meaning of a word. Our fame will shoot up. Which people dont need a great reputation?

We should be known to have everything one needs when it comes to this area.

4. Its always been on my mind. It would fill me with joy to see that dic/glossary. Twould be a wish come true

5. Its a fact that people do need such a resource (don't you -people?) a chorus of 'yes' ripples through. See? Just ask them.

I also agree with Kirby that we should have one sticky and break it up into sections (i.e. recommended reading, glossary, list of acronyms etc.)

I think no hard and fast rules should be set, since some things can be explained by a one-line definition, while others are a bit more complicated than that. Primarily, the emphasis should just be on being as concise and accurate as possible.

Get right to work in this thread if you feel like it. I've got to run right now, but CX has given plenty to work on for the time being... I'll compile the list as promised, and it will be a single post in the reading list sticky as per Peter's suggestion (that thread might also be better renamed "BC&H Reference").
