Some find that cannabis helps for getting to sleep. Works well for me.

The few times I've battled insomnia, deep breathing and relaxation/meditation has usually helped. The technique I use is to count breaths, and try to think *only* about the number I'm counting and the feel of the breath going in and out. I breath in through my nose and out through my mouth; slow count 1 in, slow count 1 out...slow count 2 in, slow count 2 out...

If my mind wanders to anything else, I start over at one again. If I make it to 10, I start over. It doesn't usually take more than a few sets to relax me and get me dozing off.

This statement is pretty telling. That you have insomnia, yet it does not interfere with your schedule indicates that you really need to have more things to do, like say, a job or giving back to the community. I'm sure a healthy dose of volunteering would put you to sleep nicely.

I really could use some of your insomnia. I'm under a lot of pressure right now because my internship is nearing its end and there's still a lot to be done. I won't mind being wide awake for the next few days.

Melatonin -- natural hormone that yer bod produces as part of your sleep/wake cycle. You can buy it in pill form OTC.

I've had to do the prescription sleeping pills myself b/c of delayed onset sleep syndrome. I tend to be a night owl anyway -- got to sleep at 4 or 5 AM , woke up at 2 or 3 pm. Not good.

Notwithstanding all that, the advice from tribalbeeyatch is good.

Fresh air knocks me right out - you don't have to be physically active, you can just sit in your backyard or go to a nearby park, by yourself or you could invite a friend or two and just hang out. Exercise is excellent too - swimming, for example, or walking. What can also help is a warm bath and wearing a sleep mask.

I tried melatonin a while ago, but it did nothing at all for me. When I asked a doctor about it, she told me melatonin only helps in certain cases, when your body clock is confused - when you work shifts, for example or when you are jet-lagged. It will do nothing in case of boredom- or stress- caused insomnia.

This may sound totally off, but since I'm 18, male, and w/o a significant other... I either run to exhaustion or masturbate. A lot of the latter. If one pop doesn't suffice, go for 2.

This is what I actually do, this isn't put in as off-topic or just to stir controversy.

Odd. A run exhausts me physically, but makes me mentally alert. And sex? I have sex with the wife, and I want to rebuild the kitchen or bathroom. Last time we had sex(last week), I tore my counter tops off, and started tiling a new pattern in. Might work for you, but for me and probably a lot more people out there, it's a sure wakeup call.

The bit about K_S wanting to rebuild the kitchen after sex with his wife sounds sensible.

I started going to an anti-aging doctor b/c I wanted more energy. I am a 48 year old white female.

Well, I've been on testosterone gel for 3 weeks. I think it's the fountain of youth! Both men & women produce it.

I started having housecleaning fits after one week on T-gel. Then the doctor put me on injectable growth hormone as well(Genotropin). After four days of HGH shots, I started shoveling junk in the house!! The boyfriend nearly plotzed over in shock!

(You can read about it in my thread under Misc Disc "That proves it! I really can't lose weight".

I think that now I have a tiny bit of understanding why high testosterone men want to go out and conquer the world!!

I go through periods of insomnia several times a year and right now is one of them. I wake up at 3:00 a.m. regardless of what time I go to sleep, how much exercise I've done, or how much alcohol I've consumed the night before. I'm still a little sick and the extra sleep could do me a lot of good, but I still wake up at 3 a.m.
I've kind of learned that I have to accept it and not let the frustration it causes get to me.
I've tried reading, falling asleep in front of the tv, and countless sleeping pills. The latter of which does put me to sleep but gives me a drug hangover and prevents me from sleeping the following night.

I suspect though that within a few weeks this episode will subside and I'll be back to normal. I hope.

So...Do you understand the behaviour of men a little better now?
