Default Help with Dreamweaver

Hey everyone!

I'm currently in the throes of producing my first website by using Dreamweaver.

One of the problems I'm running into is that I want to display my pictures in a browser with a fixed size -- that is, I want to display a regular-sized picture in a 350 x 500 pixels browser. How do I fix the browser so that it'll display in that size no matter who pulls it up?

Another problem I'm having is with the images. I created some images in Adobe Illustrator and saved them as jpeg files in Adobe Photoshop. But when I tried to pull them up in Dreamweaver, I couldn't see them. With photos that I scanned in I have no problem whatsoever. They're saved as jpegs as well and are displaying perfectly in Dreamweaver.

I've gone into the code to try to see if the problem is that Dreamweaver didn't write the code correctly, but it looks just fine. When I save the images as gifs they look fine but lose a lot of color information. What's wrong with my images?

Please help me out. I really want this website to look perfect.

Thanks
~Monica

That always happens to me when I save things as .gifs. I think it's because the gif format has a different color palette, so the image loses something in the translation. There's probably nothing wrong with the images, it's just the format.

First suggestion: don't. Web pages that try to dictate how they should be viewed are so 1980s.

If you insist, though, you can try this, where "page.html" is the name of the web page you want to open in a window of a specific size:
<A HREF="javascript:var win=window.open('page.html','my picture','location=no,menubar=no,resizable=yes,sta tus=no,titlebar=yes,toolbar=no,scrollbars=yes,widt h=500,height=350')">Link </a>

What OS? Macs do some odd things with extra file information that can sometimes throw off browsers -- if you upload the resource fork to your site, it can be unreadable. If you "Save for Web..." in photoshop, that problem goes away.

There are other possibilities. Can you show us the actual html code?

*flails*

Dreamweaver!

My first suggestion, put it onto a CD <if you dont already have one> delete from your system and cut it up. Get a real program.

*sigh* Might as well start learning the problems with Dreamweaver myself.

When saving JPEGs, use Baseline Optimised not Progressive. Progressive wont show in certain software.

No no, that's not the question i was asking. The problem is that when saved as jpegs, the images don't show up at all, and for no apparent reason. Thanks for your input anyway.

Thanks for the advice, pz. Actually, I don't think the problem is with the actual html code. It's the images. I think the fact that I created them in Adobe Illustrator has something to do with it, but I just... don't understand... what's wrong. ARGH! :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

oh btw, where do I insert that piece of code? in the head?
