Default "Hitler" producer fired for speaking his mind

See the article here.

Quote:
Ed Gernon, the veteran head of the company's long-form division and executive producer of Hitler: The Rise of Evil, was given the boot shortly after the New York Post published excerpts of his interview in its April 3 edition, including his ill-advised analogy, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The Rupert Murdoch-owned right-leaning newspaper blasted Gernon's opinion, calling it just another example of "Hollywood's anti-Americanism."

Gernon, hyping his four-hour miniseries on the Fuhrer's early years and justifying its relevance, suggested that the nation's fears about terrorists and the Bush administration's "preemptive" invasion of Iraq echoes the anxiety of the German public during the early 1930s, which led to Hitler's rise to power.

"It basically boils down to an entire nation gripped by fear, who ultimately chose to give up their civil rights and plunge the whole nation into war," Gernon told TV Guide. "I can't think of a better time to examine this history than now."

Who says irony is dead?

Cheers,

Michael

It's not even like the guy was speaking his mind, and out came something really contraversial. It was a pretty benign statement, if you ask me...

Irony isn't dead. It's been declared an enemy combatant and is currently being held indefinitely at an unknown location.

The Hypocrisy in the land of the "free" is again blatantly obvious... It's a shame really, that a country this mighty and "superb" can't even take a little critique from it's own citizens.

The U.S. Military does not practice the "goose-step."

Unfortunately, the U.S. media is most happy to adopt that step when on parade.

From the article, emphasis added:
Quote:
The miniseries' production company, Canada's Alliance Atlantis, has canned one of its top executives after he made a politically incorrect remark in the current issue of TV Guide comparing the state of American affairs today to Nazi Germany under Adolf Hitler.
Canada is not just another state.

Yet.

Yeah, that's what I was just about to post. But even if it had been an American company which did the "canning" that would hardly prove that the "country" is so unfree. People get fired all the time by companies for all types of reasons. One case I read about yesterday: Mike Kelly, the journalist for Atlantic Monthly who died in Iraq, used to work as an editor for "The New Republic". But he didn't like Al Gore and wrote that way. Guess what? The OWNER of the "The New Republic" DID like Al Gore and fired Kelly.
Big deal.

Cheers!

Actually you raise a very good point for discussion. The Corporatization (I just made the word up, so no need to point out that it's not a word--you get the jist) has increasingly led to the decay of our society. You are not free in a Corporate environment, yet we live increasingly in a Country that is run by Corporations. Corporations are inextricably intertwined with Government at the highest levels.

So, freedom of expression is increasingly squashed regardless of whether the view is right or left leaning. It is as though we have modeled our way of life after Ray Bradbury's novel, Farenheit 451. For those of you that have not read it, I suggest you do so. There are stark similarities to what you are seeing before your very eyes.

Enjoy this brief window of expression on the internet. It will not last long. This unrestrained sharing of ideas and thoughts accross the ether will soon come to an end. We will be muted. Long live the King!
