I need help better understanding Muslim naming practices, especially in Egypt. I can't seem to find a straight answer on the Net, and my character naming sourcebook is unclear. Okay ...
1) Do Muslim families generally have a set "surname" the way Europeans do? 2) Are titles such as Ibn (son of), Binte (daughter of), etc., still commonly used? 3) Do these sound like convincing or authentic Muslim/Egyptian names? Leila Binte Zahrah [where Leila is the "first name"] Adeben Ben Al-Faris [where Adeben is the "first name"] Any help is greatly appreciated. --W@L |
