I think this Doonesbury hit the nail squarely on the head.

You beat me to it, ng4m. Could this argument be extended to illustrate why some democratic governments are at a disadvantage against totalitarianism? Or why state-church separationists are always on the defensive against theocrats?

I haven't heard her interviewed. But it sounds like most of you guys are "liberals" and don't like her because she's conservative. Do I have it right?

No, you don't have it right. I have plenty of respect, despite my disagreement with, plenty of conservative pundits. Robert Novak comes to mind. I disagree with a lot of what he says but he strikes me as an intelligent, thoughtful person.

Anne Coulter is not intelligent nor thoughtful. Her attacks are generally baseless and without evidence, she does not ever allow debate and she slanders constantly.

No, I'm a center-right conservative. I don't like her because she's an absolute idiot. I would not classify her as conservative because she's too far to the right.

She doesn't have a political position as much as a screeching hatred for anyone to the left of Joseph McCarthy. The best analogy I can come up with is she's like a mentally deranged street corner preacher with a bullhorn condemning the rest of us to hell and warning of the end of the world.

She must do this for the multi-million dollar book contracts. I can't see anyone that managed to graduate from high-school, let alone college, thinking this way.

I'm certain I remember hearing Limbaugh defending McCarthy. I think it was back with that controversy over the Elia Kazan's honorary academy awards. Anyone remember this?

I don't know about Rush defending McCarthy, but this (admittedly insane-sounding) Usenet thread says that he denounced him- http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=e...cb9c9ee&rnum=1

Oh, come off it. They may agree with her, but dropping her name there makes it sound like she wrote their manifesto. And while they probably read Rand, they also believe in a great deal which is contradictory to her beliefs.

Am I the only person on whom the term "female taunting" is lost?

When the reporter didn't know what she meant, Coulter assured him that the readers would...but I don't.
