I personally don't like calling french fries freedom fries either. It's like selling freedom short by naming a fat fast food product with that name. The whole idea of it was half-baked. That being said, I'd like to see us reward countries like Spain and Eastern Europe for sticking up for what's right (or by our side anyway)and slight France and Russia wherver we can. But renaming french fried potatoes is pretty pathetic.

Ya know, it's kinda childish if you think about it "Well, they said they wont help us so we are gonna stop naming foods after them. NOW who's the moron!? HA!" Idiocy at it's best. Did this work when they did it to Germany?

Though I might want to avoid the childish spitefulness against the Spanish and The Second World Europe, as well.

Thumbs up

That is great! Of course, this would occur at a time when I can't have brie or Champagne. But I think I will head over and seek out some French products when the time comes!

Thanks for the heads up!

Wasn't it the French that saved OUR asses in the American Revolution? General Layfaette (yeah I butchered the spelling, I just woke up) ring a bell to anyone? If it wasn't for the French there probably wouldn't even be a US in the first place.

I wonder what exactly these people think they're achieving? Anyone who is serious about French cuisine would, I think, be celebrating the fact that the word "French" is no longer used to describe that most odious and loathesome invention of the American fast food industry, the "French" fry.

I mean, come on. You didn't really think that anyone actually associated French fries with France did you? They're American. Everyone associates them with American fast food. So as far as anyone else in the world is concerned, this is an example of how America is willing to hurt itself in a childish temper tantrum worthy of any three year old.

Make sense?
No, it doesn't make sense.

First off, without the Brits and the Battle Of Britain, the USA would have been in deadly trouble.
Do you really think that Hitler, had he conquered all of Western Europe, including Britain, would have left the USA alone ?
You would be self-deluded to believe this.
Had Hitler beaten Britain, the USA would not have held out successfully against a German/Japanese alliance.

Far, far more French, Brits and Commonwealth died in WW 2 than Americans, who came in late, and out of self-interest.

The USA helped the French --- but muchly out of self-interest --- from a very deadly threat in the 1940's, and continued with NATO against another threat.

None of that means the French should suddenly help the USA with what is muchly a vanity war speciously justified by supposedly moral but deeply cynical propaganda, or that France should not speak its mind.

Do you want true friends -- who may be critical at times--- or arse-kissing sycophants ?

Don't get me wrong. I would like to see Saddam deposed. But I distrust the amoral crap coming from the Bush admin about this all.
