(Ignoring the sematics concerning the word "love".) No, I won't tell you about my love life. Let's just say that once love was the greatest thing, and in the crappy world I lived in, the fact that it was illogical was a large part of what made it so great. Now I have removed the irrationality called love from my mind. (I can only like.) Therefore it's difficult to think of such concepts. But maybe it's something for me to think about. Christians talk about "love" quite a bit. When they do, I simply dismiss out of hand the idea of "love" as illogical silliness. But is it really illogical silliness? You, yourself (Echidna) seem to think it is irrational. Is anything irrational actually good? (Maybe yes in the short term by accident.) But ultimately? To Adrian OK, I see what you're saying. Sure you can put a altruistic spin on just about anything. But for instance, in the example you gave. Do you really think that's what the individual was thinking? If not, what's the point in putting that spin upon it? This isn't a court of law where the definite motive needs proven. This is just my head and your's, where we're trying to figure out what actually makes the most sense. |
