The Catholic church does not deny salvation outside the Church but holds that the fulness of salvation is available to Catholics and Jews only. The point here is that salvation is just the beginning of a relationship with Christ and therefore the end of religion. After this we enter the purgation period and from there we ascend to heaven. Protestants will not recognize this and insist that they must die with the unresolved paradox "sinfull yet saved." Accordingly they will spend their eternity like children of God (indeed) and die nonetheless because they failed to mature in Christ. Notice that "eternity" is not a measure of time but a state of mind wherein time-as-such is not known.
Interesting perspective. Thank you.

The only part that I think stands out is your statement:

I'm not sure where you get this from exactly? We often say that Protestasnt are not in full COMMUNION with Jesus, but not that they can't enjoy full salvation.

So there was something erroneous inserted into the alleged "Word of God"?
Precisely. And easily exposed by one serious about knowing the word of God.

Edited for derailment

I have split the derailment to here. Any more derailments along those lines will be deleted from this thread on sight.

What makes you tick?

The analog watch I wear.

I've been wanting to use that joke for several days now.

Well, jumping in kinda late here, but I don't talk about "God" so much. I think it's a misconception that we freethinkers have a sort of hang up about God and religion. What I find interesting is history and science. And I find it amazing that people actually believe in the fairy tales of Christianity. I have always been around fundamentalists, but have never been one (although, I did come close to converting once in the hopes of catching a rather beautiful woman). I suppose the domination of our culture by organized religion did drive me to become a freethinker. It certainly started me questioning my religious beliefs more seriously and led me to read more of its history and the history of this country. What I found shocked me and now I feel compelled to fight against what I consider to be basic ignorance - not only of our religious roots, but of the roots of this country. So in part it is very political.

But I don't feel at all that way about "God" in general. If people want to believe in such a being, than I don't see a problem with it. However, the major precepts of Christianity are so patently false that I can't fathom why people want to be so blissfully ignorant.
