I keep picking that up time and again. Europe, Australia, NZ, South Africa, Russia and the Far East all seem to be drifting towards, or in some cases have arrived at "post-religious" societies.

The largest sources of new recruits for both Catholic and Protestant missionaries are sub saharan Africa and South America.

Default oh no they won't!

'"'"The thing that cheers me up is that they're effectively admitting that modern christians have no strength of faith. They're all so terribly upset that there are people committing sin within a hundred miles of them, but they're not prepared to take any responsibility for their own actions - instead they want to use the law to punish us for not obeying their rules.""""

I'll make a bet with the Christians. They can run the country when they decide they are going to enforce ALL moral legislation in the Bible and not just the part against gays and non-believing blasphemers.

The parts I am talking about:

-Charging their brothers no interest on loans
-no true repossession of property to compensate for a bad loan.
-they understand that what is "practical" is not always Biblical.
-Give people the right to glean fields if they are poor or take food from grocery stores without paying, if that is considered a modern day equivalent of "gleaning fileds".
-Resolve disputes between themselves accprding to not only the law but in a way that ends bitterness between the parties.
-Every 50th year (or is it 40?) return property they bought to its original owner.

There are others I could list, but don't worry, there is no way they would enforce these laws today. If they tried all the people would leave the churches.

Nope.

I wish I'd taped the Reel Life show at 9.30pm on TV1 a couple of weeks back, though. That was a hoot! Did you see it? "All You've Ever Wanted To Know About What Lesbians Do In Bed", or something. Great doco - fun and informative. LOL!

Update.

I was just watching Billy Connolly on TV. During an ad break, there was an advertisement for this crowd: http://www.promisekeepers.org/ This was not at 5am on a Sunday morning, either - this was at about 10pm! When people are watching!!

I didn't like the look of it, so did the obligatory google shuffle and found that a NZ chapter is being established.

Maybe we should be more vigilant and vocal about conscientious atheism down here. The religious right, particularly from (in fact, fucking solely from ) the American evangelicals and their mass "weep for Jesus, weep for yourself - and be healed, brother!" marketing strategy via the telly is looking like it might very soon start proactively witnessing with the power of primetime television and a half decent ad agency. I think they're going to try to come after us. Seriously.
