Default Why is summer so popular?

It's hot, it's muggy, and the tourists come out in droves. Winter is so much nicer - the weather is better and the days are shorter, which makes it perfect for long walks in the park or long drives in the country. Of course, the best thing ever is to curl up with a chilled wodka double (neat, of course, and everyone knows you burn in Hell for ruining good wodka with a mixer) and a Wagner CD spinning in the stereo. A good book helps a lot, as well.

So tell me, summer people - what's so great about that season? It seems that many people greet the summer with abandon - why not the same for the winter?

I like the longer days, but as soon as summer starts, they get shorter.

Fresh tomatoes and charcoal-grilled dinner.

That's about it for me.

I like spring and autumn, though. And most of winter, except for the darkness (SADD).

I hate the goddamn summer. I hate the sun. I hate doing outdoor activities. The dark and the rain makes me happy. I love the cold. I love darkness.

Most people are surprised when I tell them the above, as I don't look or act like you're probably picturing.

Summer was great when I was kid: No school or job to worry about, I lived on the river, didn't have to pay a huge power bill for the air conditioning.

Now I'm all growed up, don't live on the river, work eight to five, and have to pay for power, it's just another season.

Soft summer nights. (I like humidity to a point anyway-if the sun isn't out and I don't have to exert myself.)

Long days of light seem less confining.

Greenness and the color of actual growing flowers.

Lots less laundry! (It takes a lot of material to keep my 6'6" kid clothed in the winter.)

Sparkling lakes (as opposed to frozen ones.)

Crickets and fireflies.

Open windows.

(I don't like everything about summer, but that's not what you asked, so I won't list the negatives.)

Hey, I'm with the ellipsis. I intensely dislike the heat and humidity of summer, especially given what it does to my hair.

Give me autumn any day!

I can walk without looking like a friggin robot. My whole body stiffens up in the cold(thanks to an old injury), making it a lot harder to do anything.

No runny nose.

Much lower power bills.

Much less washing.

Fresh air gets into the house, 'cause I can open the windows, and leave the doors open.

No foggy mornings(like this morning).

I'm much more comfortable in shorts and a t-shirt, than I am with 3-4 layers on.

And most importantly, beer tastes much better when the weather's hot.

Basically, if the temperature's between about 20C to 43C, I'm a happy boy. Roll on, December!

Ihave but 2 reasons for liking summer they are, however, quite compelling (to me at least.)
1) The women wear less.
2) I'm not freezing my arse off.
