Regarding the web page <a href="http://www.bibletranslation.ws/comp.html" target="_blank">http://www.bibletranslation.ws/comp.html</a> ,

What evidence do you have, and what reasoning process did you use? Thanks. |

Well, Dougal, I don't know if you have seen my post, or are ignoring it, but you are quite mistaken about his being Catholic.
One, his website as a whole shows a fundamentalist protestant theology. Two, the link to his brother's web page on his links page, shows that his brother is a member of New Tribes Mission, a quite anti-catholic organization. In fact, the author himself of the bibletranslation.ws site, was born and raised in New Tribes Mission. Three, his own translations of the gospels of Mark, Luke and John, have footnotes that show non-catholic theology. So, as to your assertion that he is biased, I beg to differ. Wouldn't a fundamentalist protestant, who was raised anti-catholic, and yet rates a catholic translation as accurate based simply on the facts, wouldn't such a person be considered remarkably UNbiased? Yes, he would. You on the other hand, seem to show great bias. Apparently, you believe that a Christian couldn't possibly be unbiased. Or do you believe that a human being cannot possibly be unbiased? Either way, you are dead wrong, happily. |

I noticed that Asimov makes many references to the Anchor Bible and have been looking for it. Amazon.com lists an <a href="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/038542583X/qid=1024290992/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_1/103-7368289-2198214" target="_blank">Anchor Bible Dictionary</a>, but it's a bit more than I want to spend...
Anyway, are these the same thing? |

You can pick whatever English bible you like, but please understand that it comes with the filter of the translators. If you truly wish to discover the bible, I would recommmend obtaining an interliner version that is coded to Strong's concordance. This way, you will have each Hebrew/Aramaic/Greek word with the English translation underneath, and coded to Strong's, where you, yourself, can look up the word. I would also strongly recommend a lexicon, so that you can get not only a more thorough definition of each word, but also compare uses [which should most certainly aid in understanding]. It will take some money and a lot of hard work, but as my grandpa used to say, nothing worth anything is free. |

Good suggestions, but even with a concordance like Strong's you are apt to get theological bias since translators still need to translate and agree upon definitions of words. That can make a difference. Best to have several lexicons, the NA27 and a decent understanding of Koine. |

Check out this Bible Versions Poll on a web page. It offers a choice of 40 options.
Currently, many translations, the TNIV, the ESV, the HCSB, the NLT, the RSV, the NKJV, are tied with the "Wicked KJV." The "Wicked KJV" is the 1631 edition, which says in Exodus 20:14 read, "Thou shalt commit adultery." URL to the poll is <a href="http://www.bibletranslation.ws/poll.html" target="_blank">http://www.bibletranslation.ws/poll.html</a> [ July 04, 2002: Message edited by: wantok ]</p> |
