Good response, but I wish to pick a nit about "lower" forms of life. The idea that some forms of life are "lower" than others is archaic, a holdover from the Scala Naturae (Great Chain of Being). Modern biology does not use such terms as "higher" or "lower" organisms. Evolution implies that we (along with other modern day apes) evolved from earlier primates that (are) no longer on this earth.
