No, I think thats a very likely reason.
Obviously, many of these megaliths (and other such related items such as Machu Pichu) required a great deal of labor. Likely, being able to have your state/nation/empire build some really big *things* was of way of displaying power.

The pyramids we pretty much know were pissing contests.

The stone circles were built by the Celts. This is the only thing I will believe even if someone tells me it's false. Say otherwise and ah'll poke ye in th' bits with meh shillelagh!

Sure, but the real question is were the celts advanced aliens with anti gravity devices?

It would explain many things, such as the unearthly language.

I don't care & will never find out WHAT the megalith-builders had in mind, BUT! don't those structures make your hair stand on end? Yes, man: we-now have lost something.

Is there any information on whether the megalith builders had slaves?

Just wondering because that could be what they have in common with other great ancient monuments: a throwaway population to do the grunt work- all of the sweat and none of the glory...
