You apparently missed the part that read "who identify themselves as Christians". Please don't respond until you correctly read what's been written.

The majority of self described Christians are Catholic which has a high degree of cultural identification. I know many agnostics/atheists who still call themselves Catholic...this is seen in Judaism too...don't know why.

Thanks for all the wonderful responses. Rational BAC hit a home run with me as I feel I must be in a bible belt (still haven't come completely out with my nonbelief for fear that my town businesses will suffer). There is still not enough religious tolerance from the christians in my area.

Also really like the world religious population link from SecularFuture (do you have any for just the US?). Btw, isn't it interesting that the stats single out Atheism 4.2% from Nonreligious 16.3% ?? Hope they don't think Atheism is a religion!?!?

After hearing Mageth, I have to agree.. It would be seen as just a publicity stunt, perhaps overload this website, and probably not be an accurate measure.

I was just hoping there might be a way to really get into the minds of people and see if they really believe or not? I'm thinking there are many so called christians that really do not believe! (As LadyShea mentioned some Catholics who are actually agnostic/atheist, my wife was raised catholic and is currently on the fence rightnow). They are just going along with religion as to not dissapoint their surrounding friends & family.

By setting up an anonymous online poll, it would allow them to vote in the privacy of their own homes without their friends and church over there shoulder, and perhaps allow for the most honest results. Is this crazy for me to think that this could somehow be done?

Charlie---

I am a Christian. I believe some of the Bible.--

-- ( Forget Genesis. Forget Revelations. ----forget what most of that ding-a-ling--St Paul wrote in his "Letters") Hey--St Paul did have a role in Christianity--to bring a minor cult of Judaism to the Gentiles. But to take that to mean that all the crapola that St. Paul wrote was somehow divine in origin?====Come on ---give me a break---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-- But I in no way believe all of of the Bible . An awful lot of the Bible is complete crapola. -----------------

(killed the the rest of this post.---after the fact -----because I am getting a little tired and do not understand the meaning of what even I posted very well.)
