Default Loss of furry family member

We had to have our beautiful Rottie, O'Shea, put to sleep on Tuesday after he apparently ruptured a disk in his neck somehow and was paralyzed. He was a beloved member of our little family and will be missed forever.

I would like to take this opportunity to memorialize O'Shea by making a sort of public service announcement.

If you are considering adding a furry member to your family, please think about adopting from your local shelter or pound. If you have a specific type in mind, there are Breed Rescue Groups . Please do not contribute to the breed and kill cycle perpetuated by puppy mills and many pet shops...there are millions of animals looking for a home and love.

Rest in Peace my friend

O'Shea

Inasmuch as ownership connotes the possession of a thing, or the eradication of an individual personality, I am not a dog owner, no. ((LadyShea))

Please accept my condolences on the death of your beloved dog. I know how hard that is.
O' Shea was truly beautiful. I'm so sorry for your loss.

What a beautiful dog. My landlord has one who is strikingly similar in appearance. I love both of his dogs and I will be sad when I have to move in a few months. I'm sorry for you loss.

A gorgeous dog, indeed. I am sorry for your loss.

Just realized I've been neglectful of the dog ever since the baby was born....I'm gonna go home and hug the stuffing out of her today.

Sorry to hear about your loss, LadyShea.

My cat - Georgie - was adopted from an animal shelter. You're right about encouraging people who want pets to go to the shelters rather than the shops. We were spoiled for choice...so many animals wanting homes and love.

My condolences on your loss. Some may think it's silly but my wife and I know that the loss of a pet can be as difficult as the loss of a family member. All our present pets are rescues and we love them dearly.

A beautiful family member is always hard to lose. Condolences from the East Coast.

A shelter or a 'freebie' unwanted animal is the only way I will acquire a 4-footed family member. I've taken dogs to the local Pets Inc and seen so many animals I wanted to keep - but it would send me to bankruptcy caring for them all....I wish I could do more - they get extra blankets & a bag of food every so often, too.

Which reminds me...I took a dog in off the streets a few months ago. She tends to be strangely docile so I've been thinking of taking her up to the vet to get her checked up.
