I guess then he'd have to learn it the way most of us did, by figuring out what values/morals are needed to co-exist with other humans. And these values/morals would have to originate from his mind and what he could learn from society (such as it is) and his parents. I can easily understand why people flock to religion, having a book or a religious system to guide them, they are off the mental hook of having to figure out and establish their own value system.

You seem to be implying that I'm angry that two little kids are in a better place, or that I'm angry because God's plan is unfolding. This is not what makes me angry. I'm angry at the woman for what she did to her kids. It was wrong.

Id probably just have to pick my morals as the situation dictated. In other words, like most atheists, I'd get shocked and outraged at car-baked kids simply because it makes me FEEL bad.

If you think human life IS more precious than ant life, I would like to hear why you think that.

"Well," said Not Prince Hamlet bringing this home, "With that approach to morality, it is odd that you seem to value human life to a greater degree than you value ant life."

The defense rests, your honor.

Human life is more precious to me than ant life (though ant life is not without value), but I have no obligation to explain why to you. Suffice it to say that it does, and that is unassailable.

Jeff

P.S. You didn't answer my question.

Then why the snide comment about atheists and ants, hmm?

Media-1,

I think the words you're looking for are:

"I'm sorry I insulted the atheists on this forum. In retrospect, I realize that atheists have a set of morals that is at least the equal to my own, and it was wrong of me to impugn them."

Just asking. I thought they went together in your morality. But I still don't think that scientific explanations about how and why humans aquired a sense of morality answers my question about what it is specifically that the woman did that was so morally wrong, and why it was wrong.

If someone doesn't answer this soon, I'll just assume that most atheists get "morally" angry only because of the way certain events affect them emotionally. Either your moral outrage is due to some real moral wrong, or it isn't.
