Hear that. My computer is near 3 years old now, my real computer, not the 66 MHz . It now has an ethernet card for the DSL, 192 MB (256 is max), W2k OS, GeForce 64 MB vid card, 80 GB hard drive, and a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz sound card, my best investment. I think I'll upgrade to a newer computer in a couple of years. But what I have now does all that I ask it to. I remember when 3 years passed, you had to get a new computer. Now they are starting to hit a ceiling atleast if you use W2k.

Currently my game-name is "Chemnutz".
I change it every now and then, usually to "crank" name, like Heywood Jablome, or Jenny Talia, etc.

I have played Serious Sam 2 (only singler player) - just like the first - a great, gun-toting, rocket-blasting romp thru exotic locales!
Good game for just getting in there and blasting, blasting, blasting!
I'm "Meat_Chunks". If I ever happen to see you, I'll make sure to toss a friendly grenade your way

Fintilgin: I recommend boards by Abit, Asus, and Gigabyte. All three have some great values, and powerful, reliable boards.

Smile My cockpit!

I'm a bit of a flight sim freak, but also like RTSz..

Intel P4 1.7
512Mb RD RAM
30 Gig EIDE 7200
Ati 7200 64Mb, going for the 9800 128 next paycheck.
19" CRT
MS Sidewinder Pro
56k Dial-up.

Favorite games;
MS CFS 3, IL2 Forgotten battles, MS FS 2002, C&C.

I get most fun though trying classics that I'd didn't have the time or money to play when they came out originally....

http://www.the-underdogs.org/

Very cool site and so many games, so little time!

At the moment, I am using a not so good computer, luckily I am getting a new one in a month or two.

Computer:

P3 498 MHz
384 MB RAM
Geforce 2 Ultra 64 MB
One 40 GB HD and two 6 GB HDs
19" CRT
ADSL
DVD player
CD burner
Two speakers of some kind
XP Pro

This is roughly how my new system will be:

Asus Motherboard P4C800 Deluxe
P4 2,8 GHz
2 * 512 MB DDR PC3500 433MHz
Radeon 9600 Pro 128 MB
3 * IBM 120 GB HD 8 MB cache (Two of these will be using Raid)
The 40 GB HD from the computer I am using now.
DVD player
CD burner
Creative I-Trigue 2.1 speakers
19" CRT
XP Pro

If anyone has a suggestion for my new system, I'm all ears.

Favorite Games: Fallout 2, Half-life and Planescape: Torment

Looking forward to: Half-life 2 (The preview videos are truly mind boggling!)

O great World-Tree, I have a suggestion or two

Why not go for the PC3700? It's $30 more now, but that will probably come down a bit soon. Also, why not the 9700 pro over the 9600 pro? $25 for that performance boost seems well worth it to me.

Past that, your new system will be welcome at any of the LAN parties my friends and I throw as much as possible.

Come to think of it, if any gamers here are going to be in central PA (and can bring their systems), they should let me know, and we'll endeavour to throw 'em a LAN, especially if it means our LAN group expands (we have about 8 interested people with computers... and usually only get about 4 together at a time We'd really like to change this. )

Athlon 1700+
512 MB PC133 RAM
128 MB GeForce4 Ti4600 graphics card
Generic sound card (built into the motherboard)
Altec Lansing speakers (two speakers and a subwoofer)
One 80GB HD and 100GB HD
19" CTX Monitor
40/12/48 CD/RW drive
50X/16X DVD-ROM drive
DSL

Favorite games: A ton...currently playing a lot of Shadowbane. Used to play Dark Age of Camelot before I got sick of being shunned and unwanted (I was foolish enough to bring a Warrior to level 43 before I gave up). I also enjoy RPG's (both Baldur's Gate games, IWD II (which I should probably start up again sometime)), RTS (Starcraft and Warcraft III), and FPS (Serious Sam 1 and 2, NOLF 1 and 2 (NOLF was about the hardest FPS I've ever played), QIII Arena).

Games I'm looking foward to: Tron 2.0, Star Wars Galaxies.

Sincerely,

Goliath

I would like to buy the PC3700 and the Radeon 9700 pro, however, after looking at the figures, I have found that it would cost approximately 2000 NOK (300 $) on top of the cost right now, and I have already exceeded my budget by 2320 NOK (about 350 $). It would be cheaper to upgrade the graphics card in a year or so, and just use the RAM I have already picked. (It is 1 GB, it should be enough for a while.) If prices drop enough in a month, I might be able to buy something better, but it seems unlikely. Thanks for the suggestions in any case.

Okay, I'll bite. Don't expect much though, I've a terrible habit of not writing down what I put into the machine unless it's having problems. :banghead:

Motherboard: Generic, HP Pavilion. Terrible buses, slow as frink.

CPU: 1.3 GHz Athalon Very nice, very fast.

Memory: 256 MB plain old DRAM I think.

Hard Drive: 20 Gig, veeeery slow. Need to set up a RAID system.

Sound: Soundblaster 16. What? What?? Beats the on-board... nameless discontinued awful thing that it is...

On-board Video: Piece of ptang that not even HP will admit they installed. Does the phrase "S3 ProSavage" send chills up your spine?

Video card I actually use: Nvidia Verto PCI. I can play movies now.

Fave games: Furscape, Spindizzy, NeoTokyo

Looking forward to: CosmicMuffin, Annyrion
