Default anyone here read tom robbins novels?

i've been hooked ever since i read the first one, and i hear he has quite a fan following. i did think his last one was a bit of a disappointment though.

anyone here like tom robbins as much as i do?

his latest book is out today, and i know i will be at the bookstore soon - spending money i can't afford to spend!

Read Still Life with Woodpecker in college, and remember liking it quite a bit.

A couple of years ago I picked up Another Roadside Attraction but just couldn't get into it. I never finished reading it.

'another roadside attraction' was his first, and he had not yet refined his craft, imo.

my picks for his best would be 'skinny legs and all' 'half asleep in frog pajamas' and 'still life with woodpecker' in that order.

Well, I'm glad to hear that Another Roadside Attraction may not be his best. That one left me feeling conflicted and a bit confused, I'll admit.

OK, was the one about the girl who was the stocks trader/salesperson by him? I swear it was...was that Frog Pajamas? if so, I liked that much better.

Really want to try readin Jitterbug Perfume (correct?) and Even Cowgirls get the Blues. Are those not any of your top faves?

cheetah,

yeah, the one abt the stocks trader was 'frog pajamas'... it starts with the day the stock market crashes...

and i clean forgot 'jitterbug perfume' i might put that fourth on my list... or maybe third, before 'still life...'

nope.. didn't really like 'cowgirls'. i think its a little better than 'another roadside attraction' though...

Thumbs up

I loved Another Roadside Attraction! Plucky Percel running off with the body of Christ was priceless! LOL.

I've also read Jitterbug Perfume, Still Life with Woodpecker, Even Cowgirls Get the Blues, and Skinny Legs and All. Enjoyed every one.

If you like Tom Robbins, also check out Ben Elton - I've read Stark and Popcorn so far, and he's genuis. Very funny with crazy scenes, but more serious underlying themes that will pinch you through your laughter. Perfect!

Jitterbug perfume??? That rang a bell, I only bloody made the book back in 1984 LOL well I helped make it, I folded the sections. If you ever check the nick of the folds it was shite paper ran on a shite machine...that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.

Never read it though, must dig it out and have a look.

I read Fuck Yes! by Wing Fing, which is rumoured to be Tom Robbin's nom de plume for the book. Craziest book I ever read.

I love Tom Robbins too! I picked up "Fierce Invalids" the other day but haven't read it yet.

I liked "Another Roadside Attraction" a lot, but my favorite is probably "Jitterbug Perfume."
