The more I look at threads like this the more I'm certain that Christianity is just a mind game. A mind game I grew out of years ago. |

You know, I think Radorth is the absolute perfect example of the Christians around me. They are so very loving to little evil atheist me. Next time I want to rant about bigotry, I'll just use him as an example....

I can see why the Catholics like that. But since it doesn't say 'one holy Catholic and Apostolic Church and a bunch of other ones that we'll get to in a thousand years or so' then it pretty much leaves you out of the loop. |

"Catholic" in the Nicene creed should have a small "C".
It is not referring to the Catholic Church. Catholic with a small c means "universal" or "wide-ranging". "Universal" would suggest acceptance of all other Christians. |

It means the same thing with a capital "C." Did they even have capital letters at that time? What it was doing was excluding all the "heretical" Christian Churches and recognizing only that Church that was authorized by the Imperial Roman Government. There's no way to sneak Protestantism into the Nicene Creed.

A "true Christian" follows the teachings of Christ and lives as he did. They believe in God's word and do not question it.
This leads me to believe that Christians might be penniless carpenters preaching to the masses. They do not marry, have sex, or have children and they hang out with prostitutes and sinners- many times having dinners with them. They also curse fig trees that do bear fruit out of season and think the devil possesses people. How many Christians do you know like this? Maybe a "true Christian" believes in the "word of God" and follows it precisely, which means that they should be sacrificing a lamb every so often or perhaps even their own children (or at least stone them to death for insolence). They should forsake their own families to preach the word at all costs to life and limb. How many Christians do you know who do this? hmmm... Well perhaps a "true Christian" is simply one who believes that a supernatural "man" died on a cross for all mankind even though in doing so, he made most of us go to this hell place. At least they know they go to this marvelous heaven place!! They may do good works, usually for those who will accept their beliefs and have potential for giving money in the future. Though they are all sinners, they devalue gays, hate fornicators, and think other religious believers go to eternal hell (with much wailing and gnashing of teeth!). I know lots of those people so I guess that must be the modern definition. All in All: Good in spirit but deluded in reality. trillian |
