While I did find it an interesting picture, and this particular image didn't bother me, I do agree that some forewarning is called for (indeed, only polite) when linking to an image of someone's insides laying on their abdomen.
Edit: Sabine, you are either amazingly insensitive and ignorant, not to realize that photos of any surgery, no matter how beneficial, will be highly disturbing to some, or your post above was entirely disingenuous. |

Interesting picture, but the article became substantially less interesting when it began to preach.

I wouldn't be a bit surprised, if those people who'd complain about the graphic nature of the in-operation image, wouldn't think twice about watching a bloody horrorflick while gobbling down buttered popcorn like it's going out of style.
This thread might've been more suitable in science and skeptisism, (or rather put, it would do the subject more justice) but that's about as far as I'd take my sidenotes. As far as "politicly sharged" goes. As pro-choice as one might be, abortion should never be a decision to be taken lightly. There's nothing political about that i.m.o. Or preaching for that matter. If, as an atheist, you don't like having everything turned into something religious... just a hint... then don't. The mom thanked people for prayers and support in a personal note, and that's as far as it went. Or in other words; lighten the hell up already. |

So I am neither insensitive or ignorant but rather aware of the consistant nags Livius has been taking at Amie. I agree that adding the word " graphic " in the OP would prevent a person who is truly and genuinely impressed by surgery pictures to view it. Knowing Amie she will have no problem adding a warning. And in my post I do mean that I am marveling at the progresses of science. |

I am so shocked by the path this thread has taken. Amie has attempted to trick everyone into reading a pro-life article under the guise of sharing a "great picture". livius was shocked and disgusted by having been so tricked, and spoke her mind. Amie accused livius of being "the queen of forum drama", and refused to admit her (IMO) obvious intentions.
Sabine used the opportunity to kill three birds with one stone: Supporting her friend and fellow theist Amie, attacking livius, her adversary from previous threads, and coming up with a ludicrous rationalization for her inability to defend her criticism of an "explicit" image in an entirely different thread. livius responded with her usual calm and reasonable explanation for why she was upset, and throughout the thread Infinity Lover took the middle road in a completely transparent effort to defend Amie while not really taking a stance on the discussion of whether or not the picture should have been posted in the first place. Well, needless to say I too am disgusted by this thread. And for what it's worth, I'd chop that little guy to pieces with a butter knife if the mother wished it done. I'm not easily swayed by the absurd argument "but look at how cute and fluffy and finger-squeezy it is." To me, that is no argument at all. |

I find the story and the picture an example of the amazing advancements of medical science that brings a better quality of life. I think of the joy and happiness it brought to a family.
