Thought I'd say hello and introduce myself. I identify as an atheist. I like the notion of a lack of belief, contrary to disbelief. Honestly it wouldn't affect my lifestyle one bit if it was proven there was or was not some greater power or whatever one wants to call the it. I live and as far as I can tell will continue doing so until I die. What comes after? I don't know. I like the idea of returning to the state of unborn. My conciousness may seise to exisist or there may be some form of after life. I don't find that either possibility worries me to greatly. It is how it is. What I look forward to after getting my Bachelors is moving out of the bible belt and living as secular a life as possible. I would like to be as little emerged in the worries of God, gods, afterlifes, etc. as possible. I'd like to find friends and lovers that don't fear some kind of thunderbolt coming down at me for my lack of beliefs and reverence. Not having to step around others ignorance and intolerance would be a great relief. Why step around? I just don't see any reason to waste time and energy talking to a brick wall who has chosen ignorance. I'm all for philosophical banter on non-faith based morals and such though. and just being able to discuss life without irrational guidlines being applied should be nice. Nice to meet you all. **disclaimer** I'm an awful speller. Forgive and feel free to chuckle.

Hello and welcome! I know this site has been a great catharsis for me, living where I do and surrounded by idiots. I hope you enjoy it here!

Welcome midnight!

When I first came here a couple of months ago, I thought I had it bad here in fundieland, CO. I've since learned that I'm not nearly as lonely in my lack of god beliefs as I thought, and there are definately fundier places to be. It feels really good to just poke around on the boards and know that I'm not alone in a crazy world. Hope you enjoy it here.

Where in TX are you? I have an extremely soft spot for Austin. My hubbie and I go there every spring, if we have the dough to spend on a week of restraunts and drinks at jazz bars.

Thumbs up

Welcome midnight! Always glad to see new folks 'round here.

Bachelors in what, might I ask? And where are you thinking about moving to? Is your family in TX, or is that just where you're going to school (or both)?

Anyway, take a look around here, we've got a wide range of stuff for you to check out. If you're looking for resources, then I would recommend the II library which contains a wealth of good information, some written by our very own II members. I personally enjoy checking out the news before coming here to post.

Enjoy! And again, welcome!

A Bachelors of General Studies with an emphasis in biology, chemistry, and spanish. I'm in Lubbock going to texas tech university. I'm going to Austin at the end of the month. Thinking of staying in a hostal. Austin International Hostal. I'm originally from the Houston area. Family is still there. Thinking of moving to east or west coast. leaning more towards south west coast because I'm not real fond of snow.

Welcome, midnight... that sounds kind of poetic. Ever read Salman Rushdie's Midnight's Children?

Welcome, anyway. Hope you find the boards as interesting as I have.

hi there! i'm fairly new here myself. but i felt immediately at home. i can't get this kind of "community" in the suburbs, where i live in real life. i'm surrounded by religion, but thankfully not fundies (not too many anyway).

and i won't bother you about your spelling if you don't bother me about my lack of capitalization. i have to type properly all day long. i like to rebel on my own time.

anyway, nice to meet ya!

Welcome, midnight! So you've discovered the problem with atheism...if you are lacking belief, then you are experiencing a "lack" of something (a negative state of being). But if you "disbelieve", then you are "dissing" the Christian population so you must be very careful about revealing your authentic self to others. I wish it weren't so....:banghead:

Midnight,

Have you spent much time in Austin before? It's kind of a home away from home for me and the hubbie. PM me if you'd like any suggestions for places to go/things to do. We've spent quite a bit of time goofing off there!
