Default Doubt

I would say that most religius people have their doubts,
is there really a God? am I really saved? and so on.
But what about atheists, do you have any doubts?
Do you ever think, deep down, could I be wrong in my stance?
the universe is a strange place, perhaps there is more to life than I think?

Most of my closest friends are theists, yet I am by far the least certain of the lot of us of the answers to all the tough philosophical questions.

Wrong in my stance? You mean about the Easter bunny? Sometimes I wake up at 2AM in a cold sweat thinking what if I'm wrong. I mean there are the hollow chocolate rabbits and those sugar eggs with the little scenes inside surely they must mean something!!!!!

Jesus, Yahweh, Santa and the Easter bunny all rate about the same amount of doubt.
Do you ever have any doubts about the gods you don't believe in? What if you are wrong about Apollo? No? I didn't think so.

Biff the unclean,
thats very funny, but there are more sophisticated ideas around, and the universe is still far from being understood,
yes I know, the argument from ingnorance fallacy.

An atheist who refuses to admit the possibility, however slight, that some kind of god exists, is being a little silly in my opinion. Personally, I'm about as convinced as I can be that no magical super-beings exist, but there is always the possibility.

But do I have to reach deep down to find these doubts-that-aren't-really-even-doubts? No. Do they affect my day-to-day existence? Nope. Am I worried that I'm just in denial? No way.

If we're talking specifically about Christianity, the sacrifice, etc, then no, I have no doubts worth considering. I find the Christian god incoherent and self-contradictory, and Jesus' sacrifice utterly nonsensical. In my opinion, even the loosest possible interpretation of the Bible, keeping only the absolute core and abandoning all pretense of an omnimax (or even competent) god, is only possible in the sense that it isn't logically impossible.

I have no doubts about the non-existence of intervening gods.

I do have doubts about the God of Deism (the one who kick-started the universe and then let go of it), and about life after death. Though I don't know if they are so much doubts, as rather wishing them to be true on my part. But there is no evidence, so I don't believe.

I really don't have any doubts, especially in regards to any of the gods of popular and past religions. There's just no evidence to support them. I think if there were a god, it would have revealed itself to its creation in a way that all of its creation could understand instead of being beyond human comprehension or working in mysterious ways. That's just one big cop out.

God is so obviously an invention of men.

ditto what Heathen Dawn said. except I don't really care if there is no afterlife.

That depends on which entity or paranormal belief you're talking about. I'm as sure about the nonexistence of the Biblical or Quranic god as far as I'm sure about anything including a round earth.

I'm extremely confident that whatever kick-started space time, if anything, wasn't conscious--because you can't have decision-making and thought without time.

I'm extremely sure there's no afterlife because of the way our minds are fully dependent on a functioning brain.

... Come to think of it, does that leave any room for what could remotely be called a god...?

I was a christo for 17 yrs, so yes, I sometimes revert to that mindset for a few seconds. god is watching, wouldnt want you to do this, end times any day now, etc.

it doesnt stick, tho.
