Question yguy's counterproductive demand...

Does anyone else on this thread feel a sneaking, perverse temptation to explicitly endorse NAMBLA, just to spite yguy?

I don't doubt it. Perhaps there is even someone stupid enough to do it and lend validity to my suspicions.

That whooshing sound was another point being missed.

The parallel is obvious...

I merely pointed out that there are many who draw the parallel...If you mean that the condonation of homosexuality was tantamount to an endorsement of pedophilia, I never made the mental connection...But I didn't do that...For about the hundredth time, I never said that [support for gays rights != support for paedophilia].

Naturally, any sane person would regard such an "endorsement" as a heartfelt expression of approval of the forced sodomizing of young boys, rather than as a sarcastic response to the arrogant and unreasonable demands of a religious fanatic who has decided that anyone not sharing his disapproval of equal rights for gays should be called upon to dance to his tune in a most demeaning and degrading fashion like a sort of trained monkey, uttering upon demand the requisite phrases of horror at child molestation, because said religious fanatic has decided that the anti-child-molestation "credentials" of anyone opposed to state-sanctioned discrimination against gays are, well, a little iffy.

Right, yguy?

(P.S. Should I take it you're conceding that, in the absence of any such "endorsement", your suspicions have no validity?)

I quote from the OP; yguy wrote:

Attention, homosexual rights advocates

You guys owe it to yourselves to repudiate this insanity [Fr. Andrew's comment that sexual contact between adults and children is not harmful to a small minority] with everything you have. <snip> those who are able need to make your objections known in no uncertain terms, lest those like myself be given any more reason than we already have to draw any connection between homosexuality and pedophilia.
Italics mine. In other words, unless I "make my objections [to paedophilia] known in no uncertain terms" I will give you "more reason... to draw [a] connection between homosexuality and paedophilia." If that doesn't imply that unless I specifically reject paedophilia, you will presume that I support it, I don't know what does.

For about the hundredth time, I never said that. Now, if you said "support for the NYC Gay Pride Parade = support for NAMBLA", I could probably go for that.
I didn't mean to imply you said that, I just wished to make the fact perfectly clear.

Not sure why you care, but yes. I sure as heck can't say that about all the respondents.
I care because it makes me sick to think you or anyone would believe that because I support gay rights I would support paedophilia. I care on a public level because for you to think that means harm to any progress that is made towards gay peoples' equality. And I care very deeply on a personal level because one of my friends killed herself as the end result of paedophiles' actions. Or did you miss that bit of my previous post?

Which suspicions would those be? They can't be that gay rights advocates also advocate paedophilia, because you've repudiated that stance. So what are you suspicious of, exactly?

There is nothing posted anywhere on II by me that could properly be interpreted as religious fanaticism. In the secular forums especially, I've always encouraged atheists to be unapologetically up front about what they believe, and not to be guilt-tripped into converting to any religion.

Balderdash. I have no power to make anyone here do or say anything except they give me that power - and I don't want it.

Right, yguy?
Tell you what: if you want to endorse NAMBLA to spite me, be my guest - I dare you. Why not, since you evidently believe such an endorsement would be seen by a reasonable person as a condemnation of religious fanaticism rather than an endorsement of pedophilia?

Had I meant to say that, I would have.

Then I suggest you encourage your friends to speak up as you have when the subject comes up.

No. You asked if I was satisfied with your expression of disgust at pedophilia, and I said yes. Did you miss that?
