I'm not talking cricket, rugby league, olympics, tennis, or anything else the Aussies regularly trounce the Poms at. I'm talking football (soccer), the obsession in England, the afterthought in Australia. What am I actually talking about?
Australia defeated England 3-1 a few hours ago. ![]() ![]() |

Obscenity. Michael Owen's first-half performance may not make baby Jesus cry, but I nearly burst a blood vessel.
I guess we'll just have to give up sport completely. It's one thing to watch Aussie superhumans destroy English hopes in the swimming pool or on the track (I'm not even going to think about that game with the red ball); but by the IP-f'in-U, when Sven's boys get invited to the spank by the Socceroos, it's time to take up synchronised gardening. |

I'm meeting up with a good friend who is a Pommie for lunch tomorrow. I shall not try and mention Australia's victory too much....apart from the first 15 minues of gloating and ribbing about the hapless Poms.
Is there any sport where the Poms could possibly have a chance? ![]() |

Ha! I love it when England lose, mainly because of the ridiculous self-adulation and jingoism that goes on in England prior to any England match. Why do they do it to themselves?

Funny. I always thought we were crap at soccer. I certainly wouldn't have thought we could be outcrapped.

But then again, where's Australia when the real football is played, i.e. World Cup? England threatened to beat Brazil in the last World Cup. Australia threatened to merely show up (and didn't, as usual). Australia will never amount to much in men's football, because most boys lose interest in the sport as teenagers, and switch to the vastly more popular sports such as rugby league and union, aussie rules or cricket. If football was a number one sport in Australia, like it is in England, we would be regulars in the top twenty FIFA rankings.
