The last time I read the bible it seemed like bad things happened to people who god had blessed.

LOL, it like that bit in the bad movie Prophecy, at least I think that is the movie. But anyway, one character is wondering about why humans like the idea of angels so much. If you read the bible it is rare that an angel is doing anything good for the human they are interacting with. Even Gabriel coming to mary is a mixed bag at best. "You bear the son of god, he's going to be crucified and bled to death in front of you, congratulations." |

Persecution from god and the angels could explain the remarkable amount of guilt laid out by the catholic church.... if god kept smiting me and my buddies i'd sure as hell think I did something wrong somewhere along the line...

The real rub is "God Bless America" is not our national anthem. Some people just like to pretend it is. |

Why do you think we left your little empire?
The real rub is "God Bless America" is not our national anthem. Some people just like to pretend it is. But if they close thier eyes and pretend REALLY hard, maybe the christian fairy will grant thier wish and create a great christian utopia! :notworthy |

I got sick of that "God Bless America" crap about 3 days after it started. I really started to despise it when I saw one of those construction message-boards parked in the middle of a median here in State College, with that written on it. Fortunately, it was long since removed, but every time I hear that song, or see some t-shirt, sign, bumper sticker, balloon, tire cover, etc with "God Bless America" on it, I get an urge to go biblical on them, and do some massive property damage.
But, no, that would be wrong. *sigh* |

All I ever get the urge to do is mark out the 'B'. Somehow, my integrity keeps me from doing it every time. It's nice to fantisize about, though.
[rant] I've been sick of the song ever since members of our government decided to sing GBA instead of our national anthem. Also, what exactly does "God Bless America" mean? It sounds like a command to me. Are these people telling their nonexistant god what to do? If their god actually existed, how do you suppose it would feel being told what to do by it's puny creation? As far as seeing GBA everywhere, I find it a bit sickening. It's like if you don't have that sticker and a bunch of flags on your car you simply aren't patriotic. The whole 'proud to be an American' blind patriotism movement is just as idiotic as religion to me. [/rant] |
