I'm not much of a Star Wars fan, but I was pretty excited about this game. I Bought it straight off the truck on release day. Of course I didn't even get to play until well into the night because of login server/subscription server issues and patching. Then their was the constant interruptions of server crashes, emergency patches/rollbacks (ugh), and periods of rediculous latency limiting my play time for the first few days. I didn't expect a perfect release, but wow this was like paying for beta. Anyhoo, things somewhat smoothed out to the point of a morning patch being the norm most days, but crashes and login server issues not as severe. These annoyances aside, I was loving the game for maybe 2 weeks. Then I suddenly realized I was bored by it. I tried different character types for a bit and I was still bored. A couple days ago I canceled the account. I still have a couple weeks left so I may go back, but I know this feeling from other games, and its about 90% certainty that SWG is dead to me. I can't really say why it became boring, only that it did.

The only MMORPG that has held my attention for any extended period was EQ and it is also the first one I ever played. I played EQ off and on for nearly 4 years and still go back to say "Hi" and group with old friends when I get the occasional email giving me a month or week to login free in an attempt to regain old subscribers. I have tried others MMORPGs and none really did it for me like EQ except for DAoC which held my attention for a few months. It may be that I've changed as a person and this style games just aren't my thing any longer, yet I still keep trying and hoping. I know that I will try EQII, and any other that drops below $20 is very tempting indeed and worth the risk in my mind.

Here's a rundown of the games and the time my attention was held:

EQ = 3.5 years (a couple lengthy breaks)
DAoC = 4 months
Anarchy Online = 1 month
Star Wars Galaxies = 3 weeks
Earth & Beyond = 2 weeks
Everquest Online Adventures (PS2 beta test) = 1 week
A Tale in the Desert = less than 1 week
