"God told me to tell you" that "the bible is the word of god" and that "he doesn't have to tell you himself" because "he says so in the bible" which "is the word of god" because "it says so right there in the bible, check it yourself." I should visit christian chat rooms more often to inquire about these things, the answers I get are very funny. Though I go there to gain insight I can't help but to come out either appalled or laughing.

All this talk about "why do Christians and other religionists think they have to speak for God?" really has a simple answer:

Everyone is really just speaking for themselves and tapping into the addictive, seductive drug of the feeling of power over man and nature by backing everything up with "godsaidit" without having to actually win a logical argument. Imagine how powerful you feel when you declare God's will for all to hear? And when you have an army of similar fanatical drones behind you, one can bet it feels pretty powerful to be able to declare someone else a heretic and be done with them in your mind. Life is easy to understand, and it feels great to be righteous. I'm sure many a religionist longs for a return to theocratic power so they can forcibly sweep away all the people they don't like. And, as predictably as the rising of the sun, everyone thinks their sect will be the ones giving the orders.

And why doesn't God step in and set things straight when so many people seem to be speaking on his/her/its behalf in contradictory ways? He/She/It takes little or no interest in daily affairs here, is not capable of doing so, or simply doesn't exist. Its that simple. This fact is irreconcilable with a god that takes interest in human history let alone individual human lives, unless that interest be a malevolent or capricious one for its own good pleasure.
