Seriously, are these children being taught anything that will enable them to get into any kind of decent college? Even True Christians(TM) are going to have bills to pay when they grow up.
edited to add in response to hj - What sort of career can one hope for from BOB JONES University? [ May 23, 2002: Message edited by: bonduca ]
|

Kids raised this way rarely do well once they reach adulthood. This is, of course, anectdotal evidence...but I went to high school with some kids from a True Christian tm family. They were homeschooled until middle school and then were not allowed to attend health class, (we discussed sex and pregnancy), tried to start a creation vs. evolution fight in biology, and were only allowed to have friends from inside their own church.
They were both socially inept and seemed uncomfortable in all situations. They were smart kids, and got into good colleges. The daughter came home for Christmas her freshman year and committed suicide. Her note stated her parents had not prepared her for the outside world and she was lonely, could not make friends, and religious ideas didn't cut it in college science and she was going to fail. I hope your kids don't end up like this. edited because [ May 23, 2002: Message edited by: LadyShea ]
|

The Lord Jesus called His followers to live within believing communities.
That's a strange interpretation of "Go ye into all the world..." |

grr...this is no good.
I remember growing up, moving away from my christian upbringing, it broke my mothers heart luckily she was never bitter or angry about it. She never yelled or anything but she cried for days when I first told her that I didnt believe it. But she did set a good christian example by loving be the best she could. Which brings me to my point...TC you do not really sound as if you would be accepting of your children if they reject what you teach them. Let me give you some advice, and hopefully you don't mind it coming from a teenager: Part of the reason I still hold some of my beliefs(none of the christian beliefs but a hint of deism) is because of the example my mother set for me. She didnt become a raving bitch and scream and yell like so many parents have, she told me she loved me very much and would support me in whatever I believe. That made me think a lot about how her beliefs affected her and her positive outlook. Are you willing to support YOUR children should they begin to question their beliefs? You often mention Jesus as a role model and saviour, but I don't see much follow through. Jesus went out into the world...among the same people you would shield your children from. what service do you do them? Please do not restrict your children in this way, take it from a recent child...you are doing NO GOOD...ZERO. [ May 23, 2002: Message edited by: SirenSpeak ]
|

Like televangelist, this appears to consist of being a sanctimonious slick-talking fraud with a bad haircut.
I was thinking of physician, research chemist, marine biologist, other assorted stupid ungodly but useful jobs.... |
