I really didn't care for DS9 the first couple of seasons but the last 3 or so I really got into it. It was the political intrigue and the massive space battle scenes from the war that really made the show interesting for me.

I really didn't like many of the characters on the show though. Odo, Quark, Kira and the Doctor all annoyed the hell out of me.

I would rank the captains:
Picard
Cisco
Janeway
Kirk
Archer

Q: "You hit me! Picard never hit me!"

SISKO: "I'm not Picard."

I picked TNG but I could just as easily go with DS9 as well, I liked the whole worm hole prophets thing, as well as the big war with the Dominion (and I must cofess a crush on Kiera and Dax) .
I'm too burnt out on TOS, I saw them all a zillion time, Enterprise I watch, but I find it the worst of the group. Voyager was quite good but it took me a while to get used to Janeway and her dramatic whisper.
7 of 9 is divine!

Yeah, that factored into my reasoning too, I just didn't want to admit it at first. I was never really a Kira-admirer, but Dax... Where's the drooling smily?
I blame her for my hot-nerd fixation

N Trekkies in a room yields N+1 different opinions on any given Trek-related subject.

Default DS- 9

I liked the fact that it was a bit more "gritty" than the other shows. Instead of being set on a shiny new starship that could go anywhere, DS9 was set on a space station that, for lack of a better term, was a dump.

Agreed somewhat but ***B5**** took it to an even gritter / more realistic level ... Glad I don't have choose between those two.

I also liked the fact that there was more of a continuity to the storylines.

It seemed (to me) that the other shows were pretty much self-contained within each episode. The shiny new starship would fly into an unknown system, meet the local aliens (always humans with ridges or bumps on their heads) and solve whatever problem needed to be solved by the end of the hour. In other words, you could miss a week or two and not miss much information.

TOS always ended with everyone back on the bridge of the Enterprise, laughing at the silly Vulcan. TNG always ended with everyone back on the bridge of the Enterprise, boldly ignoring the fact that the ship was still so amazingly clean. Voyager (no matter how much shit they got into) always ended with everyone back on the bridge of Voyager, trying desperately to get back to the really boring part of the galaxy.

I liked the fact that DS9 often left you hanging, with plenty of unresolved issues and a reason to tune into the next episode to see how things would turn out.

I also liked the fact that, since DS9 was (for the most part) stuck on the station, the writers were forced to put more effort into the characters and storylines, as opposed to coming up with a new bumpy-headed nemesis every week.
I definitely liked the much greater usage of minor charcters (Rom / Nog .. Garak .. Gul Dukat) and paying more attention to their character development

MY Captains Ranking

Picard
Sisko
Kirk (not on the list but Sulu)
Janeway
Archer

Make it so...

Did anyone else use to smirk when he called Riker #1 ...hey was young then ... not that my sense of humor has developed much beyond that stage now)

Of course Archer is better then Sisko!
Sisko just sits there, mumbling about how he is sad about his late wife, and trying to raise a kid.
Archer goes about in the galaxy, just like Kirk did, just that he has even less resources. Also, he is more human than Kirk or Picard. He doesen't demonstrate such a perfection, making him a more interesting character and someone to whom you can relate. Also, he has a dog.
