Same here.

Hey! I found one!

No...wait...nevermind, it was just a very right-of-center Democrat...

Sorry for the false alarm...

I've encountered a few atheist Republicans/conservatives at Free Republic (a right-wing website), but they are clearly a tiny minority. Most of the Republicans over there are fundy freaks who want everyone to burn in Hell if they don't accept Jayzuss.

I am an Atheist
I am a Republican
I support the death penalty
I support cell cloning
I support fiscal responsibility
I support a woman's right to choose
I support the President's view on war with Iraq
I actively work for Republican candidates with similar views

That party paint brush IS pretty wide, isn't it?

I haven't taken the step of calling myself an atheist yet, IF there is a God no one has found out yet. ANYWAY,

I used to be a republican, I was 18 when Dole ran against Clinton and I voted for Dole. I also voted for Bush.

As I've moved more and more away from religion, and more and more towards free thought, I find myself very annoyed with certain aspects of the Republican party, most notably the stands they take that the media flog us over the head with, especially the whole "we're a Christian nation" stance and the blinders they wear when it comes to being pro-life.

The more I've read, the more I've come here and been exposed to secular philosophy, the more I feel that I fit in with the libertarian category.

I agree with the Republicans on most policy issues, and disagree on most social issues.

I'm a musican, graphic designer, very interested in art. That aspect of my life is more embraced by the liberal side, but I also want to have a few dollars to spend on my bills, which makes me greedy right off the bat .

I like George W. I can't stand his faith based stuff, his constant references to God, and if it seems he oversteps the seperation of c&s line I'm the first to criticize it. But I think that he thinks he's doing the right thing, and I trust him as a person. If i had my way, he'd focus less on relgion and even more on tax cuts and minimal government.

One thing i can't stand about democrats and republicans is their blinders on abortion. There is more than one issue concerning this country!

In the creative world it's pretty rare to not be a democrat, but I think it's changing. I hope it's changing.

What you mean "we," white man?

I certainly wouldn't be worse off with Gore. For one thing Gore wouldn't have appointed the Prude General John Ashcroft who spends his time covering the exposed breasts of statues, busting bong shops and overturning the will of the people in certain states who decided to legalize medicinal marijuana.

Gore also wouldn't be trying to pack the Supreme Court with right wing reactionaries bent on overturning Roe v. Wade and no doubt weakening the wall between church and state.

Not to mention that the millions of people in this country who depend on social programs wouldn't be worse off with Gore.

So speak for yourself.

You could vote Democrat - the party that reduced the national debt. Shrub is back to borrowing money to cut taxes so that you can feel better off, for a while.

As a Canadian, however, I think of the Democrats as extreme right-wingers.
