Dr. Rick,
How lucky you were to know the incredible love and boundless devotion of such a wonderful Great Pyrenees. I'm sure you made Forrest's life as wonderful and magical as he made yours. My heart is with you and yours as your mourn his loss. The world is a little less bright without him. Warm Regards, Michelle |

Dr. Rick,
I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your beloved dog. The story made me cry. As a fellow dog lover I understand your pain. It has been a very long time since my first dog, Shannon had to be put down but whenever I see pictures of her I still cry (and that was 20 years ago.) Those beautiful creatures sure have a way of endearing you to them. I hope the love and support from friends and family can help you through this difficult time. My thoughts are with you. Brighid |

Dr. Rick,
I've been coming back to this thread for several days, it's been too close to home to comment on. The task of weighing quality of life versus the desire to keep them with you is one of the hardest things that pet lovers have to face. Even knowing it's the right thing to do doesn't make it any easier. I have an elderly cat who was diagnosed FIV+ a little over a year ago (he's most likely had it since before I got him ten years ago) and has had a number of small-to-major health crises since. As long as he is getting enjoyment from his life, I'm willing to do what it takes to keep him going. However, I know that there will probably come a time when his life just isn't good to him any more. I don't know whether that time will be next month or five years down the line. I just hope that I have the wisdom to know when it's time and the strength to do the right thing. Forrest sounds like he was a truly great dog and I imagine you must miss him terribly. My thoughts and sympathies are with you. |
