"Life is worth living" ran from Feb 1952 til Apr 1955, on Dumont and from Oct 1955 til Apr 1957 on ABC; then in syndication from 1961 til 1968.

This is sort of off-topic, but it has to do with Virginia, religion, and schooling.

Virginia is the only state in the union that offers a "religious exemption" for homeschoolers. The rest of us have to submit portfolio's for evaluation, or have our children take a standardized test yearly. Religious homeschoolers can write a letter that outlines why institutionalized schooling is against their religious beliefs, and they never have to contact the state again. No testing, no yearly notice of intent, etc.

I think it's pure crap. I don't mind that they homeschool to raise their children "in the Lord" (gag, retch) and all that....that's their business. What I don't understand is why their kids are exempt from the hoops all other homeschoolers have to jump through.

With so much emphasis anymore on "accountability" and such, I would think that it would be hard for officials to defend that discrepency.

They probably justify it as avoiding the entanglement of religion and government. But the real reason is probably closer to "it's too much trouble to deal with those nuts."
