This is sort of off-topic, but it has to do with Virginia, religion, and schooling.
Virginia is the only state in the union that offers a "religious exemption" for homeschoolers. The rest of us have to submit portfolio's for evaluation, or have our children take a standardized test yearly. Religious homeschoolers can write a letter that outlines why institutionalized schooling is against their religious beliefs, and they never have to contact the state again. No testing, no yearly notice of intent, etc. I think it's pure crap. I don't mind that they homeschool to raise their children "in the Lord" (gag, retch) and all that....that's their business. What I don't understand is why their kids are exempt from the hoops all other homeschoolers have to jump through. Tangie |
