Question

Having discussed this with a religious friend of mine (she's Hindu) - apparently Christianity had a sect of "holy anorexics" or women who intentionally starved themselves for God.

It sucks when God has to pervade even our eating.

As far as the Seven Deadly Sins go - is there Biblical reference to them as a whole (such as the 10 Commandments), or did early Christians pick and choose among the Bible to create it? And as far as that list goes - I prefer the move Seven.

Losing weight with God is a money making trend right now. This website, one of many, Weigh Down
says 'no diet, no exercise'. Setting yourself up so that if you don't lose wieght you don't only fail yourself but you also fail your god seems like asking for trouble to me.

Heh, my mom thinks that God loves fat (This conclusion reached after going to the zoo and seeing animals such as hippos and rhinos).

There was a thread once at the Baptist Board where they were debating whether being fat was a sin. I posted a bunch of links where it talked about the genetic predispositions, etc, and tried to dumb the science down so people would understand it. Some agreed with me, but there were still people who thought it was only a sin and not biological at all. (Of course these same people think gay people "choose" to be gay, even though they themselves did not "choose" to be hetero.)

PLEAAAASE tell me these people don't go into health professions! Imagine being obese for medical reasons, which has got to be tough, then being told you just aren't "praying" hard enough and you are a sinner. Are diabetics equally sinning? Their pancreas isn't producing insulin because they aren't "True Christians" ARGGGG!

[/rant] Sorry.

If you are exercising a lot, you are most likely replacing fat with muscle. Since muscle is heavier, you will not necessarily see a drop in your overall weight (you could even see an increase!). Just my 2 cents,

So maybe that just goes to show how much God hates me!

My guess is that if you are competing in triathalons, you probably don't have any weight to spare. Your body is probably clinging to every last piece of itself!

Yeah, unfortunately it can also be "inherited" culturally. One of my mother's coworkers is from the deep South, meaning she eats a lot of fried, fatty, and/or pork-related products. They eat stuff like three-cheese omelets, bacon or sausage, and biscuits (the American kind ) for breakfast. Then there is the deep fried chicken, fried eggs, fried okra, Krispy Kreme donuts... all of which are individually OK but as part of your regular diet...! Needless to say she is incredibly fat. So is the rest of her family because she cooks all the meals!

I was raised on a regular, home-cooked diet much like that. Neither I nor anyone in my family are obese, or even very much overweight (there's six kids), so it's not "needless to say." Metabolism/heredity play a much larger part in obesity than most people realize.

This, I suppose, is what T.D. Jakes and Jerry Falwell are such svelte people.

Of course, "God" is allegedly omnipresent -- everywhere -- which would literally mean IN your food and even IN your excrement.

[It always makes me chuckle when I think about flushing "God" down the toilet.]

The 2 litre bottles are not meant as per-serving portions, Michael.
