Thumbs down DEA Uses RAVE Act Threats to Block NORML Benefit

Here is the entire article.

Quote:
An agent of the federal Drug Enforcement Administration ( DEA ) used threats of RAVE Act prosecutions to intimidate the owners of a Billings, Montana, venue into a canceling a combined benefit for the Montana chapter of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws ( http://www.norml.org ) and Students for Sensible Drug Policy ( http://www.ssdp.org ) last week.
I am in agreement that this is purely political and they are using threats of RAVE act enforcement as a means of quelching free speach. The RAVE act itself is quite scary and I find the whole thing very disconcerting.

I read about this in the NORML newsletter, and it's an abhorrent abuse of power. but we here in Florida NORML have said before, we saw this coming, and this is only the beginning. we're just waiting until the government gives up on constitution once and for all and just rounds up and arrests all of us (the members of NORML).

This article is truly disturbing. Civil Liberties are really going down the tubes in the U.S., and unfortunately as this article demonstrates Democrats and Republicans are all complicit in this stripping away of freedom. If Bush is reelected and is allowed to appoint more right wing zealots, our freedoms to express unpopular views such as those expressed by NORML will be prohibited.

Thanks for reminding me. Its time to make another donation to the ACLU!!!

When you give someone a hammer, you have no gaurantee that that will only use it to drive nails.

What do you all expect? If you legalize drugs, you'll take away all that fat cash Republican bankers are making through money-laundering.

Do I detect a hint of desperation in some of their latest actions? This is just so rediculous, it almost has to backfire.

And while the DEA is shutting down rock concerts, meth labs continue to spring up all over rural Minnesota. Way to set your priorities, assholes.

Seriously, you might as well go after the drugs that are actually dangerous. However, this should make more people realize how this is all political and power/money-driven and has nothing to do with public safety.
