Unhappy America knows the value of nothing

This reminds me of how the US knows the price of everything and the value of nothing. We protect the Oil Ministry from looting but ignore the real treasures of Iraq. Wouldn't the oil still be there if the Oil Ministry Building was looted? Were oil records more important than this? Only to Bush and Cheney.

Quote:
Looters have sacked Baghdad's antiquities museum, plundering treasures dating back thousands of years to the dawn of civilisation in Mesopotamia, museum staff said yestereday.

Surveying the littered glass wreckage of display cases and pottery shards at the Iraqi National Museum yesterday, deputy director Nabhal Amin wept and said: "They have looted or destroyed 170,000 items of antiquity dating back thousands of years... They were worth billions of dollars."

SNIP

The museum houses items from ancient Babylon and Nineveh, Sumerian statues, Assyrian reliefs and 5,000-year-old tablets bearing some of the earliest known writing. There are also gold and silver helmets and cups from the Ur cemetery

SNIP

Iraq, a cradle of civilisation long before the empires of Egypt, Greece or Rome, was home to dynasties that created agriculture and writing and built the cities of Nineveh, Nimrud and Babylon - site of Nebuchadnezzar's Hanging Gardens.

Egyptian sages also called Roman invaders barbarians, especially after the great library of Alexandria was roasted. What do you expect from barbarians?

This is truly a great tragedy for us all.
Pieces of our world history have been wantonly destroyed.

Congratulations to the USA for enabling the "liberation" of the people of Iraq from their heritage !

Hm.

Come eat Graham cookies poor irakis,
Fear not to see our God on the menu,
He's at work cleansing your past histories
Of the gay Gilgamesh and Enkidu.

Soyin

P.S. Sorry, tragedy overloads lead me to seek humor and write very bad poetry

from msnbc (link in the iraq forum)

Quote:
U.S. military commanders contend they are doing as much as they can to stem the thievery. But they acknowledge they do not have enough troops to patrol every looting-prone part of the city while also focusing on stamping out lingering pockets of resistance and guarding against suicide attacks.
Some Iraqis, however, question the allocation of U.S. forces around the capital. They note a whole company of Marines, along with at least a half-dozen amphibious assault vehicles, has been assigned to guard the Oil Ministry, while many other ministries including trade, information, planning, health and education remain unprotected.
Why just the oil ministry? Jaf asked. Is it because they just want our oil?
Answer: Yes.

Perhaps haiku is in order:

Look a butterfly
Aided by a gust of wind
Fleeting from mine eyes.

Please see the thread in the IRAQ forum.

(Yes I know about moving threads and merging, but apparently merging can be dangerous and risk the loss of posts if the server is busy...)
