Tui is the norse god of war. Translated from the Roman war god Mars we get Martes=Tuesday.

I was motivated to register at theology web. I might try limiting my responses to bible threads instead of science threads. I am not sure.

I eventually abandoned theology web because separating the wheat from the chaff (won't the Christians like that analogy?) was far too much effort. I did have some reasonable discussions, but the most fun was really with Socrates, whose pathetic attempts at calling me names had me rolling on the floor. I liked his old avatar which showed a rather grouchy looking bust of the philosopher. He admits to natural selection and mutations (but only through loss of information). All you need to get him to admit is that increases in information are possible, and he'll be a bona fide evolutionist. He obviously sees the trap of admitting to new information, no matter how insignificant. When I chased him on it, he stuck his head in the sand. If someone with more patience than me could remind him of this...

Etymologically, Tiu is a cognate of Zeus, the "Iu" in Iuppiter and Sanskrit dyaus = heaven. He is interesting because IIRC he seems to be the only god in the Old Germanic pantheon who has indo-germanic roots (dyeus*).

I tried to be reasonable. I tried to be polite. I tried to stick to the facts. But after being repeatedly told that evolution is a lie, backed by all scientists, who only publish lies, to promote their atheistic agenda, while at the same time being barreged by creationist lies, well, my patience ran thin. This socrates is a nut, and has admitted that there is no emperical evidence for creationism, but the fact that the Bible is written by the only eyewitnees to creation (God) should be proof beyond all doubt that creationism is a FACT.

<stirring music on>

I'm sorry, are you getting any results over there by being polite. I'm sure the heck not. :banghead:

Yes, we both are -- just not with Socrates. Every time an evangelical's head nods silently, we score. Hold fast to that. As long as we don't sink to the level of Holding or Socrates, we've won. The advantage of being right, you know. As you know many thoughtful Christians have trouble stemming the flood of cognitive dissonance, no matter how well they have trained themselves in the doublethink necessary to be Christians. Those people need us.

<stirring music off. Wipes tear from eye>

Though I must say I am having a decent conversation over there with Captian Orche. Wienerdog is good too.

Those two are OK. I like Ochre.

I went madly out of my way with Socretes to be nice, but once its indicated that you disagree with his religion you are a misotheist. I had never heard that term before meeting him. I still haven't looked it up, I'm sure it isn't nice.

I never heard it either. Just continue to be nice. We can't lose, you know.

misotheist = god-hater
(So if one rejects the existence of Zeus, one is a Zeus-hater?)

Tiu is the Old English version of the Old Norse deity Tyr, like Woden ~ Odin.
