This fits here better than most places. I made a documentary about separation of Church and State and The Godless American's March on Washington.
I entered it into it's first film festival and I won second place. The 1st place winner was really good, so I'm not unhappy. But then, a week later I get the judges sheets evaluating my movie. They hated it. You rate each film in four categories giving each category a 0-5 rating, 5 being the highest. Last year I won this festival, and my film averaged a rating of 16. This year my film averaged a rating of 2. No joke. Two judges gave me zeroes over all, and two of them gave me a score of four. One didn't grade me at all. But I still won second. I don't know what to think. Obviously, when they were watching it, they all got pissed off at the atheists running amok and judged the film based upon a religious bias, but then when the judges got together at the end of all the screenings they had to admit that mine was the second best film. It makes me want to enter the film in more festivals to piss off more judges. I think I will. |

Way to go! You evoked an emotional response. No wonder you did well.
They hated your message but couldn't deny the craft. Beautiful! ![]() Jeff |

It's called one nation under and it's supposed to go on sale this month. But I just finished an interview with Barry Lynn at American's United for Separation of Church and State that I am tucking in, and watching it at the festival made me realize some cuts and text screens are necessary. So June. I'm probably going to buy a banner ad here for a few months when the paypal links go up for ordering it at my website. So keep watching the banner ads here, and click on them to check out those secular merchants who we should all be supporting anyway. [commercial break over]
I emailed the judges coordinator at the festival and we talked about how the judges kind of showed their bias, particularly to someone who won the festival previously with a technically less adept film.. Like I said though, from watching the films, I feel like I would have given myself second, and the one that won deserved to win. The film that got third didn't deserve it, but only because I think the judges failed to understand another film. It was about midwestern underground hiphop. Don't laugh, the film needed cut, but it was good. |

Having seen the film I would think you should've gotten a minimum of a 5 for it being in focus...

I told the judging coordinator that next year I was going to submit an I luv Jebus movie that was not lit in anyway, had no audio mixing, all the titles would be misspelled, and the audio wouldn't be synced. But I wanted perfect scores because it was all about lovin jebus.
