Jobar: (Ah, at this time I had better put in my standard disclaimer- I am quite certain that this "God" wears no human face or form, save for perhaps the faces and forms of everyone. Jehovah does not exist- I am truly an atheist and truly a pantheist, simultaneously.)
rw: Jobar...is that an absolute disclaimer? |

Well, since I make no claims to omnipotence, I'll have to say "no", rw.
I've decided against posting on multiverse theory in this thread; it applies, but not directly, and is perhaps more a subject for Science&Skepticism. (Anyone interested should get that May 2003 Scientific American. In fact, all those in this forum would profit from reading it; the philosophical/theological implications are staggering. I might even hazard to say they are absolutely staggering.) Instead, let's dabble in semantics for a while. I've been using the words 'absolute' and 'infinite' as... well, not exactly synonyms, but approximately that. Is this kosher? Am I making some error by doing this? 'Absolute' seems to mean maximal; the 'omni's used to describe God may simply indicate that nothing greater can *exist*, and not that nothing greater can be *imagined*. 'Infinity' stumps the imagination; but can we say that one is greater than the other, conceptually? Is infinity an absolute concept, or is the concept of absolutes infinite? Have to think on that one... |

Hello Jobar
Quote: I suggest you hang on to your hat; my next post, I plan to talk about the multiverse, wherein there are possibly an infinite number of universes ======================== I think whether you talk of an infinite universe, or an infinite number of universes, it is just a way of saying we do not know how to quantify space. What exists outside of this infinite universe, or infinite number of universes? Is it some sort of void, dark matter, nothing, or what? And is this space outside of our universe infinite in some way? peace Eric |
