Default The Chechens just don't give up

Quote:
From The Guardian:

Suicide attacks in Chechnya since 1999:

June 7 2000 - Two Russian police officers are killed and five wounded in a suicide car bomb attack in the village of Alkhan-Yurt.

June 11 2000 - Two Russian soldiers are killed and one wounded in a suicide bomb attack at a checkpoint near Grozny.

July 2-3, 2000 - Chechen rebels launch five suicide bomb attacks Russian security force bases over a 24-hour period. The worst, on a police commando dormitory in Argun, near Grozny, kills at least 54 people.

Nov 29, 2001 - Suicide bomb kills one Russian soldier and injures three.

Dec 27 2002 - About 80 people are killed when suicide bombers ram vehicles into the local government headquarters in Grozny, causing the roof and floors of the four-storey building to collapse.

May 12 2003 - Two suicide bombers drive a truck full of explosives into a security compound in Znamenskoye, in northern Chechnya. Fifty-nine people were killed, and almost 200 injured.

May 14 2003 - At least 30 people are killed in a suicide bomb attack during a religious festival taking place east of Grozny in the town of Iliskhan-Yurt.
And that's just the suicide attacks, not at all counting the more normal guerilla activities.

I guess the Chechens just want their independence, unsurprisingly in view of the Russian treatment of them.

My money is on the chechens in the long run. They are beyond determined and if the world is someday forced to examine their issues, Russia will not look good.

I wonder what would be Unk Sam's response if say, N Cali or Oregon seceded (or tried to) today. "Welcome to Jeffersonia".
