Default Mood Music

I seem to be one of the people that lives through music. Much more so than books, movies, etc.

With that, I was wondering what everyone's favorite song would be for these four categories.

1. Your "zone out" song that makes you realize exactly what's important in this world.

2. Your catharsis (rage) song.

3. Your libido song.

4. Your song that's so beautiful it hurts to listen to it.

My answers would be...

1. Orbital - Halcyon on and on

2. Filter - Hey man nice shot (I actually loose my voice singing/screaming this song)

3. Anything by 12 Rounds or Orgy

4. The Chieftains - Siuil A Run (I still can't listen to it without crying)

Ooh! Cool thread, Uzzah!

My answers:

1. Artistic epiphanies with most Beatles songs.

2. Anything NIN.

3. Again, a lot of NIN songs. lol! violence closely tied with libido, I guess.

4. A four-way tie for this one.

a. Any Radiohead song from The Bends or OK Computer.
b. Air - Playground Love
c. this Yo La Tengo song. argh. I don't know what it's called. I'll fill in this one later.
d. Beatles - Julia

and I hope you won't mind if I created my own little category.

5. song that makes you feel safe, stable, comfortable

My favorite one for that is Stereolab - Cybele's Reverie. That and a cup of warm tea always manage to wash the frustrations and angers of a day away.

This is tough...

Artistic epiphanies: Deux Arabesques by Debussy, No. 1
Rage: Mars: Bringer of War by Holst
Zone Out: Dante's Prayer by Loreena McKinnett
Libido: Symphony #7 (A Major) by Beethoven, Mvmt. 2
Most beautiful: Haven't found it yet.

Good topic!

Your "zone out" song that makes you realize exactly what's important in this world.

Hypocrisy - "Disconnected Magnetic Corridors"

Your catharsis (rage) song.

Lots of these...

Velvet Acid Christ - "Let's Kill All These Motherfuckers"
Limbonic Art - "In Embers of Infernal Greed"
Spineshank - "Asthmatic"
Pantera - "Fucking Hostile"
Machine Head - "Exhale the Vile"

Your libido song.

Type O Negative - "Love You To Death"
Kidneythieves - "Pleasant"

Your song that's so beautiful it hurts to listen to it.

Skinny Puppy - "Love In Vein"

song that makes you feel safe, stable, comfortable

Celldweller - "Under My Feet"

Good topic!

Zone-out: Enya, "China Roses"

Angry song: Blind Guardian, "Into the Storm."

Libido song: Don't really have one that I know of.

Beautiful: Loreena McKennit, "The Lady of Shallott," (the most brilliantly colored song I've heard), or Medwyn Goodall, "Full Moon Magic" (the most silver song I've heard).

Safe/stable/comfortable song: Enya, "Deara Ar Mo Chroi."

And I hope you don't mind if I add another category:

What song brings the most intense pictures to your mind (whether about the song or something else)?

For me, it's probably Anggun's "Snow on the Sahara."

-Perchance.

*Strangely... any old-timey ballads, bluegrass, or Rock-a-billy. I absolutely can't stand country music, but this stuff reminds me of my grandpa and my family roots. I find myself listening to it when I do genealogy work.

Your catharsis (rage) song.

*Anything by TOOL. I don't get to listen to it much anymore with the little guy running around.

Your libido song.

*Fiona Apple (the old stuff) makes me horney for some reason.

Your song that's so beautiful it hurts to listen to it.

*Moonlight Sonnata - Beethoven

song that makes you feel safe, stable, comfortable

*Hurt - NIN

5. song that makes you feel safe, stable, comfortable

Hmm, I'm actually an extremely stable kinda guy, but I suppose my choice would be The Countess Cathleen from Riverdance.

6. What song brings the most intense pictures to your mind (whether about the song or something else)?

My problem is that with every major romantic relationship in my life, I associate a song with it. And to hear that song kind of opens the wound again from the failed relationship and all those feelings come rushing back. With that said I would have to say "Freshmen" by The Vervepipe. It was my ex-fiance and I's song.

Same here. For some reason, every single relationship I've gotten into, I've gotten CDs out of them. Which is pretty sweet until the relationship ends, and I have a tainted pile of music on my hands.

The sting goes away in a couple months though but the images never go away. :banghead:
