Allegri's Miserere, Mundy's Vox Patris Caelestis,
Monteverdi's Magnificat & Vespers of the Blessed Virgin,
Vivaldi's Glorias & Magnificat,
Probably a bunch of Bach's cantatas which I haven't heard yet.
The chorus bits from Bach's Matthew & John Passions (not the evangelist bits!)
Dakini's Laughter by Jigmed Lingpa,
Awesome Splendour by Dudjom Lingpa.

Five Constipated Men

Five Constipated Men

There were five, five, constipated men
In the Bible, in the Bible
There five, five, constipated men
In the five books of Moses

The first, first, constipated man
Was Cain, he wasn't Abel
The first, first, constipated man
Was Cain, he wasn't Abel

CHORUS

The second, second constipated man
Was Balaam, he couldn't move his ass
The second, second constipated man
Was Balaam, he couldn't move his ass

CHORUS

The third, third, constipated man
Was Moses, he took two tablets
The third, third, constipated man
Was Moses, he took two tablets

CHORUS

The fourth, fourth, constipated man
Was Solomon, he sat for forty years
The fourth, fourth, constipated man
Was Solomon, he sat for forty years

CHORUS

The fifth, fifth constipated man
Was Samson, he brought the house down
The fifth, fifth constipated man
Was Samson, he brought the house down
CHORUS

(actually, there were six:
The sixth, sixth constipated man
Was Titus. His name speaks for itself)

I also love "Lord of the Dance" but mostly because of the music--very melodic & beautiful!

Monkeybot: "What Child Is This" usurped the famous old English folk tune "Greensleeves," which has a very secular, courtly-love-type text. It was all part of the plan to convert the Pagans...
Strawberry...could you please PM me or post here the original lyrics to "What Child Is This?" please? That is my absolutely favorite xmas carol, and am wondering what to sing now that I'm not a xtian anymore. Thanks for your help!!

I love Gregorian Chants. They are so haunting, so intricate. I also love Down In the River to Pray from the Oh Brother Where Art Thou? soundtrack.

Kanani Lirit -

This is the most thorough version of Greensleeves I've seen, complete with 16th c spelling. Basically, his woman done him wrong.

You might like this one:

New Age Vision (to Battle Hymn of the Republic)

Mine eyes have seen the coming/Of an age that is to be/When from every limitation/I shall know that I am free/For the age is rich in promise/And my soul has eyes to see/God's Truth is marching on./(Chorus)/My soul has seen the beauty/Of a race from sorrow free,/An age of faith and justice,/Truth and love and liberty;/And I sing of love's great triumph/in this time of jubilee./God's truth is marching on./(Chorus)/I have seen the freeborn woman/Standing side by side with man,/I have seen the nations broaden/Till there is no tribe or clan,/And the warlords all have vanished/In the love of man for man./God's Truth is marching on./(Chorus)

This could easily be made a secular hymn!

"For the age is rich in promise/And with mind's eye I see/That truth is marching on."

"My heart has felt the beauty/Of a race from sorrow free,/An age of peace and justice, truth and love and liberty"

"The truth is marching on."

But you know, if more religion was like the religion expressed in this hymn, I don't think many freethinkers would have a problem with it.
