You know what I mean: groups or acts that had one huge hit, or are famous because of just one song, and nobody knows or gives a crap about any of their others.
I think at the top of a lot of people's lists has got to be The Knack, with My Sharona. Another of my favorites is NOEL, with Silent Morning. They played that on KDL 103.1 in L.A. this morning, which is what gave me the idea for this thread. Another one is Tim Buk 3, with My Future's So Bright, I Gotta Wear Shades. Which one hit wonders do you remember fondly? ![]() |

Men Without Hats - The Safety Dance
A song about dancing, with dwarves in the video. Instant classic. |

Too Shy by Kajagoogoo
Der Kamissar (Spelling? sorry) by After the Fire immediately come to mind The Macarena!! (Just kidding, but i didn't mind the tune) There were a number of one hit wonders in the 80's that I liked but darned if I can remember them. Safety Dance By Men Without Hats My Sherona by The Knack were ok.. Lets see.. No doubt I'll remember more of them like 4am or something. |

On a side-note, VH1 did some "One-Hit Wonder" show with some outrageous inclusions. I remember Devo was one of them. As if Devo weren't one of the most influential bands in the history of (underground) rock. Yes, they only had one hit. The Grateful Dead only had one hit. But these hits weren't wonders -- nothing like, say, Question Mark and the Mysterians.

"Oh Well", by the Rockets
"House Of The Rising Sun" by Frijid Pink I'm sure I could think of plenty more. My wife was just going through her collection of 45's and said she's got a helluva collection of one-hit-wonders. She was thinking of selling the disks on e-bay but there's no one buying that sort of thing. |
