Default Jessica Lynch

MSNBC just retold the story about Jessica Lynch and a man who helped rescue her- an Iraqi lawyer named "Mohamad." At the end of the story, people in her hometown church were praising God for her rescue. These people are most likely fundamenatlist Christians, who are sure that this laywer will burn in hell for being a Muslim, dispite the heroic help he provided a Christian. Funny, huh?

An excellent ironic point.

I always like to point out to Christians, when I argue with them, that their god is the same God that the Muslims and Jews pray to. Whose side is he on, and why does he change his mind so much? The herd just keeps getting thinner with all of these divisions.

I wonder what this Lynch person thinks of the irony. From the brief bios, she sounds a little more worldly and rounded that one might expect for someone from her hometown. Then again, given her experiences so far, she might pick up the McCain syndrome for life.

Here's a little more irony for you.

The Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem has a history of the various flavours of christianity treating each other so cruelly over that holy piece of real estate, that only a local Muslim has enough dignity and respect to possess the keys that open the doors in the morning, close them at night, and take care of the cleaning and maintenance of the building.

I find it even more puzzling that they rave about her as a hero? No big surprise that the word "hero" is as problematic for people as the word "terrorist" these days, but I still marvel when they apply it in this manner with a straight face. She was with a group that got lost and captured by the enemy, she was mangled up and lived. I'm happy for her, but that does not make me think "hero" at all. If she would have turned back the enemy and saved her comrades or dragged someone to safety etc----that would have been possibly "heroic". Weird.

Well Christians would say that the Moslem's version of God up until the time of Abraham is fairly accurate (except that Abraham was going to sacrifice the Israelite's ancestor, Isaac, *not* the Arab's ancestor, Ishmael). Their later stories about God would be the work of the devil.

she may not be a hero, but for a supply clerk she sure did ok. she fought until her M-16 had no ammo left, then mohammed helped rescue her since he saw the Iraqis beating her.

I am personally going to talk about that good MUSLIM man when ever the xtians around me bring up this incident, you know, act it up a little. shake my head in genuine admiration for that wonderful MUSLIM- wow what a religion.

did you see what mohammed wanted for his work? an american flag! there is reason for hope here

wdog,

Yeah, she did ok by surviving. I haven't heard any detailed reports about her emptying her M16 yet, that must be news. I'll have to hear more of her story before I'm comfortable with a hero designation. I guess I have problems with that whole hero thing whether it's Giuliani or a kid falling down a well. Maybe her story will be more heroic than my first impressions once more info is out......

I agree that the Iraqi guy is the main hero apparent so far. That story is already getting told pretty enthusiastically by the media for the obvious reasons. It's a feelgood story, and an Iraqi that was helpful and positive is one thing that most Americans want to hear about right now, too. Good for marketing the intervention in general, also. I think we'll see a lot more of his story, I don't think we have to worry about that. The "wow what a religion" touch is a nice idea to create some sort of cognitive dissonance and basically f*ck with xians heads. It would be better if he's an atheist though!

After Senator John McCain, who was a POW in Vietnam. His experience colored his opinions and sometimes he slips up and says something regrettable in public.
