Everywhere!
I got home today to find dog shit on the kitchen floor. No big deal, I hear you say. Ah, but this wasn't a log or two, that could be easily scooped up and carried out. No, this was runny crap, and it was on the walls, on the fridge door, and there were 5-6 seperate large pools, and many smaller spots, of it on the floor. I nearly lost my luch half a dozen times while cleaning it up. Goddammit! Oh well, he obviously couldn't help it, poor bugger, so I don't blame him- but I'm still in a fucking foul mood. Mods, feel free to move this to wherever might be more suitable if you feel the need. |

Please call your vet immediately. It sounds like your dog could be very sick. You should at least talk to someone to find out. Parvo can cause this, and can kill your dog quickly.

I can't afford to take him to a vet, and the one I've normally taken him to in the past is closed today(Sunday), unfortunately. He hasn't had a problem since then(over 24 hours ago, now), and seems his normal, happy, active self. I'm hoping it was simply a temporary thing, as I've noticed in the past he has, on the odd occasion, left runny scats in the yard.
I'll ring the vet tomorrow morning, when they're open, though, and find out what they think- I couldn't bear losing him. |

A little bit of shit, or in this case a whole lot of shit, by itself isn't a reason to not have a pet. Practice good shit management and take the lil' bugger to a vet. A little bit of cash now could save a whole lot of cash, and heartache, later. Hope it turns out to be nothing.

A little bit of cash is something I don't have at the moment, though. There's not too much I can do, besides just ringing the vet in the morning, to get some advice.

Mongrel,
I hope I didn't panick you, I just wanted to let you know that from what I've heard, that sort of thing can be extremely serious. I'm no expert, but it sounds like since your dog is ok now, that it's not that bad. Do call a vet, and for future reference, it would be good to find an animal hospital in your area in case you do have an emergency. You may be able to call your own vet after hours, and an answering service will get in touch with your vet in an emergency. One thing you can do (if you haven't already,) is get your dog vaccinated for Parvo, distemper, etc. Sudden onset, explosive diarrhea (and vomiting, I think,) is a symptom of Parvo and it can kill your dog in a day or two if you don't catch it. Hope he's ok, and I'm sorry if my post was alarming to you. girlwriter |
