I'm working on a math internal assessment, and I'm wondering what the average human weight per height is. That is, if a person is ye high, what would be the healthy weight to go along with that?
I thought I found someone mentioning something like that, but I'm so abysmal on search engines. I haven't found anything close to it. Please help? Website? Anything? |

Another thing you might want to search on is "Body Mass Index", which is proportedly a height-idependent way of assessing health (i.e. a BMI of 22 is healthy for any height while a weight of 130 is overweight for a 5-foot-tall person and underweight for a 6-foot-tall person.
It's based on the principle that, for most humans, mass ought to increase with the square of height, so the ratio BMI = Mass (kg) / [height (m)]^2 ought to be roughly constant over the set of healthy humans. It brings up some interesting details about the Hausdorf dimension of the human form. Anway, here's an online calculator with links to tables. m. |

Sorry...the idea of "healthy weight" just cracked me up. People get buried who are "healthy weight" ... hahahahahah...
The reason why people can find things using search engines is often because they can second guess the reasoning behind the idea. They look for words that people might have included in a supposedly scientific piece of writing that betray value judgements. If we are talking about peoples weight and height in numbers only... well... then some pseudo scientist with a social agenda is applying dubious statistics that have no use whatsoever to an individual. I'm six feet tall and weigh about 200 lb. According to some definitions I'm obese. Ha. |
