I am very much interested in forensic archaeology. Without wanting to hijack the thread, apart from crucifixion, another fascinating topic of this kind, is sacrifices...

Also, IIRC, the Romans took the "privilege" of imposing capital punishment on their own away from the Judean authorities, but that may have happened after the time of the reputed execution of the reputed Jesus. I did a search and sure enough, you are correct that there were indeed a number of Jews actually crucified by their own, but it appears that it was a punishment copied from other cultures; it was not the "normal" way that the Jews inflicted Capital Punishment which was usually either by stoning or decapitation. I could not find anything that suggested that the Romans took the Jew's "privilege" of imposing capital punishment, but will continue to look at that. Thanks for the other correction.
