What are some examples of a dumb minor detail in otherwise really good movies? My picks are below.
The Matrix: After Morpheus takes Neo to the skyscraper program, where he tests Neo to jump from one top of a building to another. Morpheus does it easily, and when Neo tries it, he falls far to the ground. After this, they disconnect their minds from the computer and awake back inside the Nebuchanezzar. Neo feels his mouth, which is bloody and injured. Neo: I thought it wasn't real? Morpehus: Your mind makes it real. I thought this was stupid. I mean, in order for Neo to really have an injury, he would have to physically harm it. There's no way it could make itself happen by 'imagining' it. LoTR: The Two Towers: During the Helm's Deep battle sequence. A group of Orcs rush in and place a giant bomb inside the water drain located in the center bottom of the massive wall. After this, a torch-carrying orc sprints to kamikazie and detonate the wall. As the torch runner is running, Legolas pelts the orc with several arrows, but this does not succeed in putting down the orc. Which I think is totally silly, since in every other part of the film, it only takes one arrow from Legolas to destroy an enemy. ![]() Requiem for a Dream: After one of the characters takes a shot of heroin, a quick edit shows a single eyeball with the pupil dilating. That's not true--the pupils contract. If you're going to make a movie about drugs, at least know all the details of what a drug does to the body. ![]() That's all I can think of at the moment. |

Well, I can understand that if someone dies inside the Matrix, they have all ready been programmed so that when the mind is erased, the body in the real world is discarded. I can accept this, since it would occur only inside the skull, with the wiring of the brain. I dunno.
But as for actual physical alterations, such as a bruised lip, that's bogus. |

Maybe not the type of minor thing, as its VERY minor, but I noticed a technical flaw in "Catch Me If You Can": Tom Hank's glasses had reflection resistant coating (you can tell because everything that reflects off the glasses has a green tint).
I dont believe the stuff was availiable to consumers in the sixties, if it even existed at all. Usually I don't notice little things like this, but I happen to wear glasses. |

well... in an X-files or something there was an episode where some dude could make you believe stuff happened to you. And if you believed it yoru body would react. So if you got "shot" your flesh would clot around the area (I forget what it really does sientifically), because your whole body would think this really happened.
I figure matrix was working off the same premise. |

...because The Matrix's total disregard for thermodynamics, in a construction that was not the only sloution for maintaining the plot, can hardly be regarded as a minor thing.
I so wanted to like that movie... |

In Street Fighter, the kidnapped scientist said "When good men do nothing, that is evil enough." It was the first time I had ever heard that quote. It was so out of place in that movie.
Oh... silly me! I misread the title for the thread. I translated it to read "Good things in otherwise stupid movies..." My bad. |

Minority Report
When Anderton is purchasing drugs from his street vendor, the man makes a comment that "the one eyed man is king" (or something to that effect). During the eye-surgery sequence, the surgeon says that if Anderton removes the bandages before the alarm rings, he will go blind. The spider arrive on the scene and pry the bandage off one eye well before the alarm goes off and supposedly makes Anderton blind in one eye (going back to the reference made by the drug dealer in the earlier scene). However, they never follow up on this - they never so much as mention that Anderton must now be blind in one eye. |
