Submissions welcome. Religions do make claims about the universe--the same kinds of claims that scientists make, except they're usually false. - Richard Dawkins Creationists make it sound as though a 'theory' is something you dreamt up after being drunk all night. - Isaac Asimov Faith in God and seventy-five cents will get you a cup of coffee. - Wayne Aiken |

A few of my favorites:
"If fifty million people believe a foolish thing, it is still a foolish thing." - Anatole France "The law, in all its majestic equality, forbids the rich, as well as the poor, to sleep under the bridges, to beg in the streets, and to steal bread." - Anatole France "Give a man a fish and he'll ask for tartar sauce. Teach a man to fish and he'll leave work early every Friday." - Anon Thanks for all the pithy quotes! godfry n. glad |

Ender,
This is just a side question for the sake of my own curiosity. Do you have a source for this Luther quote? “Who loves not women, wine, and song. Remains a fool his whole life long.” I always thought it was funny and one of my Lutheran friends first introduced me to it. But, I am skeptical of its veracity given that it rhymes in English even though Martin spoke German. It would be interesting to see if it really is attributable to him. God Bless, Kenny |

However, I've heard this particular bon mot attributed both to Luther and the 19th century poet Johann Heinrich Voss. Regards, Bill Snedden |
