Rational BAC

The Bible IS a seriously flawed book written by Man. Inspired by Man. To try and explain what he considered to be mysterious and supernatural happenings.

So what?

Makes no difference to me. That is all we got you know------the Bible and a few other writings. Live with it. Do not rationalize that fact to make some kind of stupid statement of certainty one way or the other. That is ridiculous for an errant book.

I get out of the Bible what I can. And that I assume is what God wants us to do since He allowed a flawed book to be written.

Really-------- both Fundies and atheists seem to get so horribly stuck on such a simple idea.

The Bible is errant. Big deal. Do the best you can with. It is not like it is ALL errant.

Many books have been written by Man to try and explain this wonderous world we live in. And before we could write, we told stories. About flat Earths, and ships falling off the edge. About Hunters in the stars. A Sun God, crossing the sky in his firey chariot. “Where did we come from Mummy?” “Where do we go when we die?” “where does lightning come from?” Questions that we, as humans, have been asking for millenia. Some of them (e.g. lightning) we can answer scientifically now. Others we can still only guess at. Great stories, many of them. But to me, they are just that. Stories. The bible is just another one of those stories.

Many other writings. Many other religions. By picking one and sticking to it, and identifying yourself with it, you are judging the others. You have made a statement of certainty. You have claimed that this errant book is LESS errant than all the others. And you are fairly certain of it, or you would not identify yourself with the book in general (i.e. state “I am a Christian”).

Assuming a god - he allowed many many flawed books to be written. Most appear mutually exclusive. Or assume no God - humans, in different places at different times had different needs. They wrote their own books according to those needs.

But you too are stuck on the idea as well. You have made a conscious decision to accept that the bible is the least errant of all the religious texts. You have assumed a god. True - get from every thing all that one can, but to take a book that is admittedly errant and claim that you can pick out the few correct bits while millions upon millions cannot is 1. egotistical and 2. irrational.

We are all entitled to our opinions. Doesn’t mean we are right (however non-humble we may be )(yes - me too)
